Share Library with a free Plex user possible?

Hi,

I have a plex pass on my NAS.
I’m trying to share a library with a friend.
Will it work ? will he need a plex pass too ?

You do not need a PlexPass (nor do they) to share libraries.

My friend is connected to his iPad and doesn’t have any invitation to accept ? :frowning:

Have checked your URL, can’t find “Friend” in parameter to validate invitation.
Plex 5.6.2 in iPad.

Where is this hidden ??? :slight_smile:

That’s strange. On his iPad Share parameters are only related to share pictures from camera, and synced data on that iPad …

When connecting from a computer, I can see family/friends / share … but there’s no invitation.

Am I supposed to “add a friend” or add a plex user (in my home user)

(sorry for terms maybe not correct, this is not in english on our app)

What you need to do:

  • Use the link above (Settings > Family & Friends > Sharing > Invite a Friend)
  • Enter the e-mail address your friend uses for his/her Plex Account
  • Select which libraries of yours you want to share or which restrictions you want to apply
  • Send the invite

What your friend needs to do:

  • Receive the Plex invite e-mail and click the included link to connect/accept the invite
  • If the he/she is currently not logged in, he/she might be asked to log-in (a friend without a Plex account will be asked to sign-up for a free account)

That’s it.

Family Sharing is similar but is designed for managed users basically using your account, not their own. You should only use that with actual family members or within your household.

I have done a test from my end with a third account and it works.
So I guess there’s something wrong with his account.

Will find and fix now that I know how it works ! :wink:

Be sure you typed the correct email/username in. You couldof sent it to some stranger with a similar username.
Have your friend check their “SPAM” folder. Some email servers do that, lol.
One important note: You MUST share at least 1 library or your friend will not be able to connect to your server.

It be nice if PLEX changed that behavior. It should say “Oh no, your friend isn’t sharing anything with you!!” instead of not connecting at all.
