Shield Experience 8.0 Audio Drop Outs

I have the REM one as well.

The Beatles one is pretty amazing. The Atmos track is very well done.

I’m having issues with Abbey Road and INXS Kick using Plex (and Kodi) when I select the Atmos sound track. Can someone post a link to the relevant thread on the Shield forum?

Thanks!

So the Nvidia staff on their forum have said that this TrueHD bug will be fixed in the next hot fix build, fingers crossed. I was just wondering if you know if the plex developers need to implement anything on their end when this hot fix comes out? or will the fix just work when the hot fix is installed. Thanks.

Is there a similar discussion for the new units? (2019)

All units 2015/2017/2019 will be getting this supposed fix in the next respective hotfix build release. Glad to see that Nvidia got to the bottom of the insufficient frame size for encapsulation within Dolby MAT 2.0

No as this issue is at the subsystem layers. Plex will not need to do anything.

Exciting. Hoping the next hotfix will solve the issue!

The sixth HotFix image for the 2019 SHIELD TVs has deployed on 2/18/2020 as version 32.7.301.98 and is based on the public image 8.1 with the fixes from all of the 6 HotFixes below.

Sixth HotFix(32.7.301.98):

  • Resolves issue with high bit rate audio dropping audio at fixed locations. Note: This fixes will apply to apps using SHIELDs audio engine like Plex/Photos & Videos. Kodi has it’s own engine which has not fixed this bug yet so the fix will not apply to Kodi and apps like it.

I can confirm Nvidia has truly resolved this multiyear long bug. I can no longer reproduce the timestamp specific HD audio dropouts via passthrough.

@Balthazar2k4 FYI because you are one of the primary people on the Internet that has helped to pinpoint this issue.

That’s great! Hopefully they release the hot fix for 2015/2017 Shields soon, not sure why we have to wait we’ve been waiting for this fix the longest.

Thanks @achilles. I look forward to testing it when I get back home Friday.

How do I actually get this update on the new units?

You need to sign up for the Shield beta program; Unfortunately, they are not accepting new users at this time.

Looks like a fix has been released for older models of Nvidia Shield. Look forward to testing later today

And it works

Did you receive hotfix 3 yesterday or today? I’m still waiting for it I’m on hotfix 2, apparently The Nvidia staff said everyone’s 2015/2017 shield tv should have received the hotfix yesterday morning, so was wondering when you received yours. Thanks.

I didn’t check yesterday but when I turned it on today it asked me if I wanted to update. So today a couple of hours ago.

I am very pleased to report that the fix works. I tested Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and the trouble spots are indeed fixed.

Has anyone checked out toy story 4? at 1min 12 there’s still a drop out at same location with TrueHD ATMOS. Same happens on Toy story 3 at 3 min 30

The drop out fix worked for zootopia and frozen 2, incredibles 2, tangled
