Shield Experience 8.0 Audio Drop Outs

I have not experienced any audio drops using my Sony UBP-X800 through my ZA5000ES to my 77A9G.

Curious if anyone has noticed this issue beyond toy story 3 and 4 titles after this update.

I dont have a many disney, pixar movies.

I have not observed any yet.

ShieldTV 8.1.1 is now available for the 2019 models.

Quick test of known bad spot:
Big Hero 6 remux @ ~34min mark when tumbling out of window: Resolved/No Drop Out

Haven’t had a chance to watch through remainder, but I recall Big Hero 6 in particular had a number of time specific drop outs.

I tried the Abbey Road Atmos Tracks and they all seem to work!

Curious if anyone can test frozen or frozen 2, someone on another forum claims its still dropping out as well, but its unclear if they think this fix works in kodi and are trying to playback in that instead of plex.

This fix does not work in Kodi on the Shield. Kodi has its own implementation and does not use the Shield’s MAT encoder. The Kodi devs are not ready to commit their changes yet due to the wide range of platforms that kodi runs on. They are being cautious in rolling out their fix.

Yeah thats what I meant, since it does not work in kodi i am very curious if the person is not understanding this bug or that it does not effect kodi as per the release notes. Its unclear what player they were using.

-Resolves issue with high bit rate audio dropping audio at fixed locations. Note: This fixe will apply to apps using SHIELDs audio engine like Plex/Photos & Videos. Kodi has its own engine which has not fixed this bug yet so the fix will not apply to Kodi and apps like it.

First titles I tested. No dropouts.

Does anybody have a timeline for when this SHIELD update with the fix will release for the 2015 model? My kids are obsessed with Frozen II and there are several places where the dropouts occur.

If you are willing to install the hotfix branch, the fix is working on two of my 2015 ShieldTV Pros.
4K or 1080p version of the movie? DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby Atmos TrueHD audio track?

4K Dolby Atmos TrueHD. How can I access and install the hotfix branch?

Read the first post here by Nvidia on their support forums.

I have problems with some titles with dropouts in fixed spots with Atmos, even after I installed the release 8.0.2 a few weeks ago. Do I understand that these dropsouts are fixed in versions after this one that I don’t have access to yet? If I join the beta program it says you can’t leave it. Does it then expire once the released build (8.0.3?) come out or you are stuck in it forever? Can you still update Disney+ app if you are in the program? How long from signing up before you get the update and it just appears one day or can you use the Shield to retrieve it? Thanks guys.

You sign up for each release separately - 8.0.1, 8.0.2, etc. The sign up does not carry over. You’ll get a notice on the Shield when the update is available (just like any other Shield OS update). Mine appeared within 24 hours. Apps update via the Google Play store, independently of OS updates. I don’t have Disney, but all my apps update normally.

Hi. I just bought two 2019 shield tv (tube model)'a. I’m loving them so far but may have to return them as I’m getting sporadic audio dropouts every 30 seconds to 3 minutes. This is happening when streaming through plex 1080p video (attached to a powerful windows 10 rig, and did not have these issues on my pc itself or when using vizios awful plex app), and also having the issue when streaming netflix.

Its beyond annoying and it’s nearly impossible to lose yourself in the experience when the audio keeps dropping out. I’m seriously thinking about returning both of them. Love everything else about them but this is a complete deal breaker.

I see there might be a “hot fix” for this, but cant seem to find where to go to get it or how to download it. This needs to be fixed and fast.

Please help. Were stranded at home during this coronavirus thing and it sucks to not be able to fix this. Thank you.

Make sure you have the latest Shield OS release. I believe it is 8.1.1 for the 2019 models.
Settings → Device Preferences → About → System Upgrade (on my 2015 model, 2019 should be similar)

Make sure you have the latest Plex app. Check via the Google Play Store app to see if an update is available.

Thanks for the quick response.

I am already on 8.1.1 and the nvidia says there is no nee updates available.

Also, no updates available for plex.

I dont think its specifically a plex issue since it also happens in netflix
