Shield Experience 9 Client Crashes Constantly

Server Version#: 1.25.3.5409-6000 (Synology NAS)
Player Version#: 7.23.0.13018

Updated Shield, plex no longer functions for more than about 10-60seconds.

I can browse libraries and the app randomly exits, I can play media and the app also randomly exits. No errors or anything, it either just restarts Plex as if I had just opened it or switches back to whatever app I was using previously on the Shield as if Plex was never there.

Has made the client completely unusable.

Here I was hoping this update would stop me having to kill and restart Plex every time I want to stream flac files…

Have exactly same issues but with windows server and nvidia shield 2019 pro.

plex is working a-ok for me on both my shields upgraded to experience 9.0.0
plex server (1.25.3.5409) also on a Synology NAS

i will say though, that the OP is on a very old version of the plex client if really using v7.23, the current version is 8.28.0

however, if you are having issues then you’ll need to provide logs

Why my shield hadn’t updated Plex since 7.23 is a ■■■■■■■ mystery to me but you are quite right that it should be 8.28 and it now works absolutely fine.

Also I get a whizz bang new GUI so that’s nice.

Seems to be the case for me also even though I made sure to update everything. For the Plex app you apparently has to go in to the Plex app page inside google play and press update from there.
Update all app doesn’t work, atleast for me.

Yeah same, shield was completely up to date, or so I thought, until I visited the Plex page of the app store to triple check the app version and saw the option there to update :frowning:

I have also the problem that 4k hdr like oblivion take very long before it start. Sometimes I have to restart the shild pro before it work.

I have the newest server version on synology ds220+ and the newest playstore beta on the shild pro.

Sine upgrade to version 9.0.0 is this problem.

When the video start it run perfectly but it take time before it start.

Having the same issue. If you start up the app and leave it sitting it will disappear off the screen and put you back to where you opened it from. If you check background programs it is still there but if you pull it up it does the exact same thing making it totally unusable in its current state.

Great thread, i reread everything and found I was on same version of app as OP. Did the suggestions and its working now!! Thanks everyone! Didn’t know that the app wasn’t updating on its own and wondered why apps on other devices seemed different. Now I know and will check!

no idea why some peoples plex client isn’t auto-updating.
i’ve never had a problem with it auto-updating itself.

I have 2 different android tvbox, by both is auto update on.

When i search manuell, he find every time updates.

I think app autoupdate isn’t work.

So I’m not the typical user, I have purposely been keeping my client (player) on version 7.31 because I don’t like the way TV shows are organized in the newest version of the client software. Also, I hate the way it takes forever to jump to a section of my library by using the letters on the right side of the screen on the newest version. Also gone from the newest version is the old video player - some of my files have delayed playback now with the newest version. I’m thinking about flashing the Shield back to the previous firmware because Plex is so janky now.

If any developers read these posts, they really need to work on app performance and make it smooth and just work again like it used to (circa version 7.31 ish). But I know that they aren’t going to do that. :roll_eyes:

the plex app has nothing to do with how your box auto updates apps.
if yours isn’t auto updating then it’s an issue with your boxes, not the plex client.

No idea other, super weird. All other apps on my shield updated fine, and my brother checked his (exact same setup as me) brother’s was updating just fine. Shrug

if you have any specific bugs/faults with the current version then you should start a new thread explaining in detail the issue and provide logs

if it’s just that you don’t like the new client version then i doubt there much point in voicing it, as it’s here to stay.

eventually you will either have to upgrade the client or leave plex, as old versions will eventually stop working.

note that none of the plex issues mentioned in this thread have anything to do with the shield 9.0.0 update.
