Server Version#: 4.145.1
Player Version#: 10.26.1.123 (3fab280f)
Starting this morning 4/14/2025, the Plex app will open but navigation is EXTREMELY slow, and then it will crash back to the home screen. I’ve uninstalled it, restarted, cleared cache, etc. Still the same issue. Anyone else experiencing this?
I encountered this issue, but I uninstalled updates of Plex player (as you cannot completely uninstall the app) as suggested by a Plex Team member and it works. Without reboot I reinstalled Plex player and get back to the previous version.
After uninstall Plex client, are you still get back to the new version (the buggy one)?
In my case, after uninstalling updates, I get back to the embedded version (a really old one). Then in Google Play Store I clicked on “update” button, and it finally restored the right version (the one that works).
I just got the update on my Shield, the linked post that says this was a mistake was from 6 days ago, so then did I get an intended update, I hope not for it sucks?
Biggest issue is there is no way to navigate the UI menu while playing content, no sub selection, no skip in timeline, and remote << and >> just goes back a couple seconds, once the video gets stuck, need to restart the app.
Today the app seems to be working MUCH better. I don’t believe it had an update that I can see in the update history, so I’m at a loss for what’s going on. How is the performance on your side?
Edit: Scratch that. Crashes still. – Seems to be better, but still crashing and stumbling.
My family has been using Plex (server/client) on the Nvidia Shield 2015. When I visited them this week, I found the server was not running at all on the Shield. I had to uninstall all apps (server/player), reconfigure everything, disable all credits detection ads, etc. Finally, the server was working, and my personal media were back on track.
However, the player is unusable. I can navigate for about 20 seconds before experiencing a slowdown and a crash to the Home Screen or a reboot of the app.
Strangely, the server didn’t crash (I can use it perfectly via a browser). Only the player is unusable. I tried uninstalling all updates and reverting to a very old version (5.x). This version is quite old but super fast and does not crash.
I hope we can have a fix soon (of course, I can’t download the logs because I don’t have time to enable logging before the crash LOL!).
As a Plex user for more than a decade, I am really disappointed by the slowness of the player app and the removal of features.
Disabled plex server here and lag and crashes gone…
Sad news but i hope fix release soon.
The player is ok because i´m using a QNAP NAS Plex server to stream with Shield TV for now…
Update: still crashing and lags a lot…
I’ve never used the Plex server on the shield since I run one on a server here. Still getting the massive lag, but at least it’s working about 1 out of 3 times now. Last week it was 1 out of 20 times I’d open the app, that it would actually function.
I’m having the exact same issue on a 2015 Shield. I was having performance issues with my shield so I did a complete reformat and now I can’t get the Plex app to open for more than 5 to 10 seconds before it dumps me back to the dashboard.
Having same issue with Nvidia Sheild Pro, since new experience update app is slow to respond, control seems to be slow or doesnt quite go where you want.
It’s really bad for sure. I’ve noticed it getting a bit better over the past week or two, but it still dumps me back to the home screen at least 4 times before it plays something. Ridiculous. I’ve resorted to using Jellyfin and having my watch status sync’d to Plex. Extremely disheartening for a long time Plex Pass individual, and an even longer Plex server owner. If we all decided to donate $120 to the Jellyfin devs, I’d imagine we’d get parity with Plex real quick lol.
