Shield TV server keeps going offline

Server Version#: 1.41.2.9200
Player Version#: 10.24.0.2257
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

I’m running an nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) with an external JBOD array set up. I have done this for years and it’s worked well, however recently my server intermittently goes offline and I have to force stop the Plex server app on the shield TV.

I have wiped the entire shield TV and created a fresh server which hasn’t resolved the issue and I have checked app permissions for both the server and the player and it keeps happening… At my wits-end with it as it’s getting frustrating having to do that before I watch anything… Any ideas?

It happens to me too… It’s a Plex Server problem…
I hope they fix it soon…

Another one with the same problem.

As a curious fact, if I go to my Nvidia Shield and open the Plex Player and change any user to the root user, the server is available again for a while, 20 or 30 minutes for all client devices and all users…

Is there anyone who knows the last stable version? I’d happily roll back to that…

Over the past week, my shield (2017 pro on 9.1) Plex server has been going offline once media playback on all devices has been stopped for an undetermined short duration of time (maybe minutes?)… Then, for the Plex server to be accessed again, I must turn on my tv and open the Plex app again on the shield(which presumably gets the server up and running again).

I’ve had no problems for years, and this started for no appearant reason…

It seems as though the Plex Server is crashing.

Any other ideas?

Edit: I’ve been able to have my server remain up for 10 hours so far, but keeping the shield on the setting page where you see the server is ‘running’… dunno if this is by chance. I don’t often stream to the TV that the shield is connected to, so I’ll likely leave like this until a fix comes.

For me this has been the solution until they repair it and a relief since until now I did not know that it was possible to return to a previous version of the Plex Server…

A thousand thanks to @badelie

Thanks @jp77 - I’ve done this today and will of course update this thread.

I’m not sure if it makes a difference or not, given it was pushed from ADB as a downgrade, but I have disabled auto-update on the shield to prevent it from being updated as well.

Yes, the ADB push doesn’t stop Google Play Updates - so I’d keep the automatic updates disabled.

Just to update, my Plex server has been available and online for the past 20 odd hours and hasn’t missed a beat.

Hallelujah.

Its a really annoying issue that hopefully will be addressed soon and doesn’t (shouldn’t) require manual updates as suggested above. For sure shoudl take priority over new features etc as its a major bug. Restarting the Shield, its works for some minutes and then…bang… gone. Its been super stable.

Is the issue know to the Plex Dev team on Shield ?

I’m experiencing the same issue with my NVIDIA Shield TV Pro (2019) and an external Western Digital HDD for my Movies/TV Shows.

Over the past few weeks, my Plex Media Server (PMS) has become very unstable. It frequently goes offline multiple times a day, particularly when the Plex Server app is idle, even though the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro remains powered on. Whenever PMS goes offline and becomes inaccessible, the only solution I’ve found is to “refresh” the app by either accessing the default Plex content or force-stopping and reopening the app. Unfortunately, this only provides a temporary fix, as PMS goes offline again after 30–60 minutes.

Any updates or advice on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, this is happening to me now, too. My media server has been disconnecting a lot. I went and noticed an update available, which I am now wishing I hadn’t installed, despite the disconnections. The Server was stable for about a day, then the libraries started going offline again. Now the media server seems to have entirely disappeared. I would really prefer not to uninstall and reinstall the server, as my library is pretty extensive and getting everything set up again will take two or three days. Hoping for an update soon. :frowning:

Same issue over there. Server randomly goes offline and won’t boot up again unless I wake up the Shield. Very annoying when remotely accessing media, was watching something remotely on my phone, stopped for a few minutes and when I came back to it the server was offline.

To all the recent replies saying you’re having the same issue, follow the instructions posted further up, it’s worked for me - I’ve had 100% uptime since

The thing is, when you sideload the lower version PMS APK… you cannot use it will NAS, correct? Kinda kills it for me…

As per the above, if you side load it as a downgrade you still have access to the NAS functionality and it will still seek updates from Google Play Store.

Means you need to disable the auto updates, but you don’t lose any functionality.

Have you seen this update from the team?

Seeing the same thing on Server Version#: 1.41.2.920 from Shield.
Hoping for a new stable version soon!

I’m on the beta channel… Will give it a whirl and hope for the best, although part of me wonders why bother if it’s working and stable on the old version…

Thanks for the heads up though!
