I’m genuinely interested in seeing how popular these Windows devices would be. It’s something I would buy, but I wonder if they would sell well in the general consumer market.
Windows 10 on ARM does have an emulation layer, so the existing Windows app would run unchanged on these devices, albeit there would likely be performance issues. Ideally, the app would be compiled for ARM - something that is easily done for a UWP application. The VLC Win32 app has already been recompiled for ARM64.
I fall somewhere in between the options. If I’d answer it freely I’d answer:
No, not until Microsoft have proven that they intend to commit to using ARM long term.
besides. windows dosen’t have any support at this moment so focusing on the vast majority of users before going in on niche products is the logical thing to do.
I think the intent behind the post was that if the developers use the UWP framework, compiling for ARM really wouldn’t be a difficult thing to do.
I do intend to get one of these eventually, but it likely won’t be until my Surface Pro 3 finally takes a dump. I would be quite happy to have an app on windows that gives me the option to sync again…

I agree, but maybe focus on the x86 platform and make sure it actually works fairly well before committing to more. Right now the windows app leave very much desired.

It’s an old argument, and I’m tired of making it, but if Plex actually wrote a proper UWP application, it would require no code changes to work on x86 and ARM64. However, Plex seem unwilling or unable to do that.
Only Plex can say why that is a massive issue for them. They will likely answer by saying “Windows Phone is dead”, which is irrelevant.
I guess the developers are busy right now trying to fix the Android app…
They seem to be stretched a bit thin as it is, based on how disparate their updates are across all the platforms they currently do support. I might wait to see if Windows 10 on ARM actually goes anywhere first. This is, after all, going to be the umpteenth time Microsoft has attempted something similar, with their previous attempts not exactly being successful.
