Hey Plex team! Just wanted to say thanks for creating a great product, and for sticking to the Plex vision - I love the idea of the new ubiquitous interface you’re rolling out, and of course I love having the ability to access my media anywhere from any device. I’ve gotten nothing but great help every time I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with the Plex Team (Especially Elan - Thanks bud!)
I just flicked through a couple of the other forum threads and there seems to be a bit of uhhh… negativity from what looks like a vocal minority… hope that’s not a trend that’s been evolving since last time I visited (probably more than a year ago), but in case it was, I just wanted to add some balance to the environment. Hope you guys are around forever - you’ve changed the way I consume media for good.
It does happen every now and again. Most recently with Roku. That, however, lead to the evolution of
Which is called UNO btw… To be fair without the vocal minorities that would never have come to pass. Their previous abomination of a UI was (we were told by Plex) actually wonderful. Only when it hit the Roku did PLex actually start to listen after 18 months.
The latest upset is caused by the upcoming removal of Plex Media Player. Something I no longer use but a really stupid decision all the same.
Though generally, I agree with your sentiments mostly.
I dunno, I just get the feeling that there are people in this forum that maybe could take a step back, look at the big picture and not be quite so nasty to the Plex team. It’s always possible to have a civil conversation with someone and to achieve a good outcome, without having people’s parentage called into question or getting called stupid (the Plex ecosystem and associated technology stack is pretty complex, I’m always impressed that it just keeps chugging along). People don’t need to be abused at any time, least of all at their place of work - but that’s a lot of what I saw when looking through the forums, so I wanted to provide a voice from “the silent majority” who are happy with Plex.
I was really disappointed when they pulled the feature (years ago) that let you automatically play the equivalent video clip of any music you were currently playing (it was a toggle in the music library - Auto Substitute Vevo Videos when listening to the same song in a playlist - great for parties)… but I didn’t abuse anyone working at Plex because of it.
Absolutely.
There are many ways to complain. Many of the ways that are often exhibited are way over the top.
Even more when its the Ninja’s (mostly just unpaid volunteers) who take all the flak.
Their is however a huge difference between losing a fringe cool feature and losing a whole mainstream client. Whilst actively then telling them to replace their several hundred pound/euro/dollar HTPC device with another at least £150.
…or major paid-for functionality in the case of the new EPG which is still unreliable for a lot of users in the UK and other places. 6 weeks and counting…
I was thinking of Emby for a while too. The only part of UNO that I miss is the removed functionality of being able to sort Live-TV by genre (for TV) or release date (for movies) which I always found very useful in searching for new things to watch/record.
