New ‘streamlined’ user interface- please revert

The new “streamlined” user interface is intolerable. Plex has the best UI and UX of all the streaming apps (Netflix, prime, Hulu) and now it’s sucks. Sorry if I’m being blunt. Having episode descriptions as you scroll was one of THE best things about plex . My wife is unhappy as am I. You should know- happy wife happy life  can you roll back or give us users and option to switch back? Thanks!!!

I’ll save you the trouble. The answer will be “no”.

I hate being the messenger but this is what was decided.

Well, I appreciate the honesty, but it was a poor decision IMO. I haven’t had the time to find out how this is playing out on Reddit and elsewhere but I’d imagine there are a lot of long time Plex folks thinking the same even if they aren’t taking the time to voice it ( and sounds like being vocal wouldn’t matter anyway). Again, going from the UX @ Hulu, Amazon, etc to Plex was used to be a pleasure… it now feels deprecated to 2010 in some ways. It’s clean, yes, but lost context and requires more button presses. Bummer.

Now that isn’t always quite true. We have the UNO interface specifically because of the Sh*t storm that occurred when the previous UI hit the Roku.
That abysmal old UI initially infected PMP and we were told we simply just dont like change.
It then hit Smart TV’s to a huge number of complaints and we were told the same.
It hit several other devices…same result.
Finally it hit the Roku and something like 4 or 5 meltdown threads all around 500 posts each finally made Plex listen…and act. Thankfully!

And this is why software teams get a bad rap. When they take the approach that “we know better than you, so suck it up and accept unrequested change”, that’s where I think they jump the shark. Even among the teams I work with, I see the arrogance and hubris that says, “we have a good product that everybody loves; now we are going to make it better without asking for input.” And that’s when it starts to come off the rails.
My family and I loved the prior interfaces before the introduction of “Recommended” tabs and software that tries to think for me. Or worse, software that basically tells me what I should want.
Boo!
Used to love Plex’s interface; now I tolerate it and spend time explaining how to work around its “improvements.”

If I may make a suggestion?

The product team gets the feedback from all comments sent to the Contacts page at Plex.tv

If approached calmly and constructively, citing the pro & con as each sees it, will give them the opportunity to reflect on the feedback.

Sending “I hate it – revert” won’t get any traction so please do be willing to spend the time and objective.
