Show specials won't play

Been seeing this issue too. Only seems to affect specials. Very strange.

However, I’m running my server via Linux docker container. Doesn’t seem to be Windows-only.

I’ve noticed that there are sometimes some ways to work around this - for example, in my case, I can’t play S00E02 (it skips to S02E01), but I can play S00E01 and then skip to the next episode, and S00E02 suddenly plays just fine.

This tells me that it’s not a media issue - it’s something with how Plex is trying to find these files.

This issue persists. I was watching some MST3k specials yesterday, and all of a sudden it refuses to work. I can’t even watch specials that it player yesterday, things I know were working.

Will this ever get attention? It’s been months.

Same problem when running plexmediaserver_1.23.1.4528-c0513eb4c_amd64.deb on Debian.

Some specials can’t be played directly. Few can currently. The interesting part is that the web player as well as iOS apps play the episodes automatically when I start a special that can be played.

Otherwise when trying to start a special Plex skips to S01E01 as so many have already described.

It would be good news if someone from the Plex Team could acknowledge the problem.

Can we help out by submitting logs?

I sent an email to customer service about this a week or so back and I got a reply back and they said they’d forward it to the team and now the update just posted fixed it so thank you for fixing it and special thanks to Jamie for passing it on to the internal team as it’s been fixed within a week! Hurray finally!

@Murdocke - Which version of the server is that? I got the latest update and it’s absolutely not fixed in the one I installed.

The beta update, even mentions it directly in the notes.

Ah, looks like there is a more current version than what is available for download that was pulled.

I just updated to the latest PlexMediaServer-1.23.2.4600-f06057b33. Doesn’t work there.

Near as I can tell there still isn’t a fixed version. They released a beta that fixed it, but discovered something wrong so they pulled it - and subsequent releases are still borked.

Thankfully, the latest version (1.23.2.4625) fixes the issue:

  • (Music) Fix regression with Add to Library when adding artists and albums from TIDAL (#12741)
  • (PlayQueues) Playing a special could result in starting playback on wrong episode (#12505)

Still broken for me.

I am seeing the same issue with my S00 episodes. It just skips to season 1, episode 1. Is there a workaround?

It looks like - yet again - the build that was ostensibly supposed to fix the issue has been pulled. 4625 no longer appears to be available for download.

@murdocke - I’m curious what address you used when, as you said, you sent an email to customer service and got a speedy response.

They’ve been dropping releases that claim to fix the issue for a while now, and it continues to be a problem - I’d love to send an email to the same address, see if I can get a similar response.

I just used the contact form and clicked one of the ones for account problems and then mentioned it wasn’t for that but nobody was aware of it and if they could pass it on
