Hi, I have a very, very annoying problem with my server. I only noticed it today after upgrading to the latest version, so I don’t know if it applies to previous ones as well.
Most TV Series Specials play the wrong episode. As simple and incredible as this is, this is what happens, with some examples:
Battlestar Galactica SPECIAL, S00E23 (The Resistance EP01)
when played, this episode reproduces S03E01
this applies to every single “The Resistance” episode (other specials seems to be fine)
King of Queens
every episode after S00E02 plays S00E02. If I start S00E05, S00E02 starts instead.
Happy Endings
aside from S00E02, every other special episode reproduces an episode from S02 instead
S00E01 and 03 play S02E18
S00E04 starts S02E19
S00E05 starts S02E20 and so on.
Bored to Death
every single one of the specials (13 episodes) just plays S00E01.
Now, it’s been a few weeks since I watched a special, but if I remember correctly it was working fine with my previously installed version (1.21.0.3711).
I guess shame on me for wanting to try the new “curation” feature and updating my server today.
I also tried this on different devices, the result is the same. edit #2 this is not true. I tested Plex for Windows, the web player and the iOS app and they all exhibit this problem, but I just tested the Roku app and this player is not affected, specials play as they should.
edit:
After looking around, this issue has been around for a few weeks:
Thanks for replying. Is this a server issue or a player issue? I can downgrade in the meantime if it’s a server issue (and is there a recommended server version to avoid this?).
for me so far anything before PMS 1.22 works as intended. I’m personally using Version 1.21.4.4079 which is right before 1.22.
on the android app it plays fine but as you can tell some clients display this problem and some don’t.
I thought the newest server update would solve this issue, but apparently allowing your users to watch their episodes is not high up on the list of things to fix.
I’m honestly not trying to sound like an ungrateful jerk, but I would think something like this would deserve a very fast hotfix. It’s been over a month since the first report of this, a month where the majority of Special Episodes is impossible to play on specific devices.
I was able to fix this issue for my situation by updating the library to the new Plex TV Series agent.
If you click on the triple dots on the left hand menu, and see an option to “upgrade media agent”, give that a try. I also have it set to use TheTVDB as the “Episode ordering” as well.
Nevermind: Once it finished updating, it went back to wrong behavior… must be meta data related somehow.
I’m having the same problem too it’s pretty ridiculous. I just can’t watch most of my specials in my library. Also did you see if rolling back broke the library with the new upgrade because I want to try that myself.
I just noticed that I have this issue as well. I was trying everything I could think of to solve it including restarting, deleting the episodes and adding them back. Nothing worked. Then I found this message thread. I certainly consider this a major issue.
Below link suggests it is fixed in v 1.23.2.xxx, however this is still broken. The only reliable way to play at the moment is to have your PMS on v 1.21.xx
Would I be correct in saying a higher PMS revision in beta should contain this fix? If so I have tried PlexMediaServer-1.23.2.4600 and the exact same issue still exists.
Tom, thanks for the beta release heads up. I have also updated to PlexMediaServer-1.23.2.4600 and the issue still occurs. When I play a special episode, it still reverts to the season 1 pilot for the series.
