Show who is streaming what and when

This has now been implemented. However question, as it is for PlexPass only...

Is that applied to the server level, or the user level?

Eg. I have 4 housemates, two of which are Plex Pass users. Will I be able to see what they all stream locally?

Thanks Elan and team, this is a great start! Can't wait for v1.0. Hopefully we can work down the OP list. So excited to try this out! It made my day.

Just to clarify: the new 0.9.8 release of PMS includes now playing activity however it does not maintain a persistent/historical view of the access activity.

You are correct, just noticed this myself - a simple 'notification history' should do the trick.

I imagine with options like - today, last week, two weeks, one month... etc

Awesome update! Thanks for all that you guys do, I’m so excited to update

It would be nice if the "Now Playing" section could also include the bitrate used for transcoding. I've asked people who are accessing my library to use a maximum bitrate of 3Mbps and I would like to check that nobody uses more than that. The perfect solution would be to have a max upload bitrate limit and a max number of users settings. Then the client bitrate would dynamically adapted depending on the number of connected users. I would love to see this in a future release.

Ultimately, user groups would need to be added and then bandwidth/time/slots restrictions placed on that group.

I'm down for a simple max bitrate set at the server, but still want to override it for select people without much trouble.

+1 - for Now Playing History....

a +1 doesnt vote for anything (you really think someone is going to go through every one of these threads and count the +1's)

read the sticky thread for how to vote (and have it count)

I am seeing 3 people streaming according to the menu pull down but never see all 3 in the "Now Playing" section. Anyone else experiencing this?

1) How is this anything to do with the actual feature request

2) Had you read the blog post, or put this in any related thread and read it, you would know that "now playing" also requires client side support, which is not yet added to all clients.

Perhaps I could have posted it somewhere else. I didn't see anywhere readily available and I know those who were interested and using this feature were to be found here.

I read the original blog more than once, and I just went back and read it again. It is not readily apparent that the clients need to support this feature, but thanks for the heads up. I have no idea what they are using to stream as I am pretty sure all my users are using one of the listed updated clients.

Now Playing

The other feature that is requested more than any other is the ability to see who is playing what from a server. This is especially important when multiple users are accessing the server. We’ve added rich functionality to allow monitoring your server, which is available in Plex/Web (or of course via API). When your server starts streaming, you’ll immediately see a notification in your Plex/Web dashboard which tells you what’s playing, and if it’s from a shared user, who’s playing it.

If you dive into the Now Playing screen, you can see even more details. And with a click of the play button, you can start playing the media locally, starting exactly where the other person is.

This feature is also only available to PlexPass members.

Now to be fair before this section the blog does specify the below but I walked away thinking it would still show up (as "everything"), just would not specify a device.

Client-side changes to enable multiuser mode have been silently made in recent updates, so multiuser works today with Plex/Web, iOS, Android and Roku apps. Updates for our other apps will be coming soon.

This feature is only enabled for servers run by PlexPass holders. Also, because of legacy apps, the permissions for a local client which isn’t signed in or hasn’t been multiuser enabled yet (e.g. Plex Home Theater) are currently “everything”. As the 0.9.8 series progresses, we’ll finish locking things down!

Great job, a very nice implementation of "playing now"!

+1 for Now Playing History

Given only 2 of the 3 are showing up, i would bet only 2 of the 3 are.

Media Server PreRelease forum is full of the info on this.

whats with the other features from the first post? like a history, for example. That can't be difficult or?!

Points 5, 6, & 7 would be extremely important to me, as I have limited bandwidth, & I share my server with 6 other people. Thanks for the excellent post. Also glad to see Plex Dev's taking the time to respond and obviously addressing the suggestions!
