Shows that have been rebooted

Server Version#: 1.16.5.1554
Player Version#: Version 4.4.1

Ok so I have a few shows that have been rebooted. Doctor Who, Battlestar Gallactica, V, and a couple others and Plex is not sorting them correctly. It either bunches them up into the same listing even though they are in different folders and labeled correctly or it wont recognize them at all.

What do I do?

You add the year when season 1 and episode 1 of this particular show have been aired for the first time to the folder name.

e.g. Doctor Who (2005) is the current show
and Doctor Who (1963) is the ‘classic’ one

Adding TV shows into Plex for fun & profit:

  1. Look up your show on TheTVDB
  2. Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB.
If there is something in parentheses, take that too.
If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
  3. Check the naming and the folder structure of your show.
Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB.
No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases.
Add the (year) in parentheses of when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired.
  4. Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide.
Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title (year) - s01e01 - additional info.ext (’- additional info’ can be left out)
  5. After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

Here is an example of mine.

Battlestar Galactica (1978)
Battlestar Galactica (2003)
Doctor Who (1963)
Doctor Who (2005)
Flash, The (1990)
Flash, The (2014)
Flipper (1964)
Flipper (1995)
Little House on the Prairie (1974)
Little House on the Prairie (2005)
V (1983)
V (2009)

See the pattern. The basic rule I go by is to always include the year in the series.
Some may argue with me on it but it’s never been an issue and has done more good that harm. Also, I always assume every tv show will reboot sooner or later. Might as well nip it in the bud now.

Awesome!
