Until the proper Plex App is launched I purchased the Simplex App and followed the instructions. I input the 4 digit pin on my Mac and it tells me my app is linked/synced but my TV is then completely white and the app won’t launch. I don’t get the chance use the Password Login as it is gone when I input the pin on another device. Anybody else had the same issue?
Yes, I’m spending a lot of time with that white screen! I then force quit SimpleX but when I launch it I get a “no Plex servers found” error message. I’ve deleted and reinstalled app. My Mac and my iPad see my Plex servers perfectly.
There’s a thread dedicated to Simplex here - https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/187382/simplex-a-native-3rd-party-plex-client-for-the-new-apple-tv-4th-gen#latest - to save you browsing through hundreds of posts, the problem you’re experiencing is most often related to Plex GDM autodiscovery.
On the plex server ensure that under remote access the private & public addresses are both correct, toggle it off and back on again. Simplex uses this information as part of its discovery for the servers so it must be enabled and working.
Under network, make sure secure connections is “preferred” and not “required”.
If you run a VPN on your plex server, turn it off when doing the remote access toggling. Most VPN’s don’t work well with Plex’s GDM autodiscovery.
If that doesn’t fix your issues, then it’s probably best to ask in the other thread as the writer of the app is in there checking and responding to most posts.
A few comments:
Nice app, as you know, needs work, but its fine for now.
If possible, be nice to kill On Deck. An option would be nice.
Folders don’t seems to work, for any category. Are you going down into sub-folders? That’s needed for just about anything in Home Videos which a lot of us use for non-movie/tv related content.

I’ve read comments like this more than a few times and had issues with GDM until just recently. In my case it had nothing to do with a VPN (Private Internet Access) being active.
For me, the solution was forcing GDM on via Terminal, then shutting it off via Terminal and making sure the checkbox was still checked (re-check if necessary). GDM works fine, WOL works fine, neither did before, Simplex works fine. Shut down the server before using the command line. I’d suggest people who have GDM/WOL issues try this before shutting down their VPN’s.
“defaults write ~/Library/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver BonjourEnabled 1” for on.
“defaults write ~/Library/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver BonjourEnabled 0” for off.
My feedback is very positive. Bought my ATV4 on Saturday and installed Simplex through the appstore. It immediately recognized the server and showed all content. Did couple of quick tests and then watched some series and a movie. Conclusion: works like a charm.
@Bastardsheep - thanks: followed your advice regarding remote access and sorted out the port forwarding and all works fine now.
May I ask if there is anyway to include the VLC decoder within this app? would be pretty wonderful if it could be done!
