When I display ASS subtitles inside an mkv file which uses more than one location for the subtitles (for example main character on the bottom, and cround chatter on the top), all the subtitles are displayed at the bottom, meaning I get the bottom subtitles cut out and the top subtitle’s text replace them.
This happens on all players in direct play, but not when transcoding. Kodi on the other hand displays the subtitles fine.
Plex clients do not support direct playing formatted ass/ssa subtitles. These either need to be burned in or your server will convert the text to unformatted plain text and you get the behavior you mentioned. This is a current limitation when using ass/ssa.
