Since today, direct play on Samsung UE40J6300 somehow fails with "Unable to connect to the content server"

Up until yesterday the movies from my local server played without any problems via direct play. Transcoding was switched off for the server. (I’m running a raspberry pi, so transcoding is not an option.
Since today, movies suddenly fail with the popup message “Unable to connect to the content server”. I investigated the logs and saw the server was trying to transcode and giving the following warning:

WARN - [Transcode] Got a request to stop a transcode session without a valid session GUID.

When enabling transcoding the movies play, but that’s just not feasible with my hardware.

I tried rolling back the server version to a working one, but strangely the problem persists.

Does this ring a bell with any one of you? I’d love to get direct play back.
