First of all, thank you very much for adding the ability to skip forward and back! It is one thing I was missing very much in the Android TV player.
However, it looks like it’s skipping forward 30 seconds and backwards 30 seconds. I other players this has always been skip forward 30 and skip backwards 10. Can this be changed or have a setting for it?
I think it would also be nice if the skip forward intervals increased the longer you hold down the skip forward input. As we cannot drag the slider like we can on mobile, we need a way to rapidly skip forward.
Or it could be set up like it is in Kodi where two quick right presses skips forward 1 minute and one press is 30 seconds, 3 quick presses are 1:30 and so forth.
That would be cool, but if not, I’d be happy with at least changing the skip backwards to 10 seconds.
Good find on that. I didn’t realize if the OSD was up it would go 30 but with it not up it would go 10. I usually pause the video before skipping forward and back so the OSD is always up for me.
I am hoping this was just an oversight in the code as I can’t imagine it was an intentional design decision. Maybe just didn’t add the code to the section for when the OSD is up vs. not?
first of all, nice to hear you are enjoying the new seek system!
This is how it works: it performs -10/+30 seconds seek when you perform “simple” actions, otherwise it will calculate the amount of seek time (rewind or fast forward) depending on how many time the action has been performed.
This is what we consider as “simple” action: simple click on the OSD buttons, simple press + release on your gamepad triggers and simple clicks on your d-pad controllers (left and right buttons on your Shield Remote or gamepad).
Having said that, the issue you’re experiencing might be caused by the sensitivity the feature uses to read a “simple” action, so in we are going to take a look to it and we’ll try to provide a more “natural” system for this feature.
About the chapter issue, it has been fixed.
@jesusMC Thanks for the explanation of the design intent regarding this feature. It’s good to hear you guys are continuing to look at it as it currently seems a bit inconsistent.
I would also really like to see the potential for much larger skip intervals, for both backward and forward. As of now, attempting to skip forward or backward for anything more than a few minutes is a chore as it’s basically VCR rewind/fast forward.
I just updated to v5.0.0.575-beta. It still skips backwards 30 seconds for me no matter how quickly I press to go back. Press and hold definitely goes really fast (too fast for me) but the quick press does the same backwards or forwards.
I also wanted to add something else I notice that is slightly related.
If I set the App to use Passthrough and then try to skip forward progress bar color goes all the way to the end, the playback freezes for a moment but then starts playing (it only actually skips the 30 seconds though) but then it will no longer skip forward or backwards. It’s almost like it thinks the show is at the end of playback and gets all confused.
EDIT: I did some more testing and it’s actually skipping all the way to the end of the show when Passthrough is set to ON. Skipping works totally fine with it set to OFF.
@jasonmcroy The seek systems tweaks I talked about a bit ago would land very soon (even sooner if you are using betas). Thanks for your patient.
I’ll take a look to your issue with Passthrough.
Thanks! Just FYI, the issue related to using Passthrough and it affecting how skipping does weird things with that option on, I have also seen this in another App for the Emby software (I am testing it as well). It does the EXACT same thing in that App if you set it for passthrough. So I am not sure if it’s an issue with Android in general or what.
However, using the Kodi App on the Shield does not have any issues with skipping forward and backward at all.

I just got a chance to test out the system tweaks on skipping since I am on Beta and it’s updated now. So far it skips forward 30 secs and back 10 secs every time! Awesome! Thanks for fixing this. I can now use the Plex App exclusively.
I think I found a bug while testing the App tonight. I have been able to recreate it every time.
Using the Shield TV remote, I click the center button to pause the show. Once it is paused I then hit the right directional button the shows skips backwards about 1 minute. After that it will skip forward like normal, it’s just when I first hit pause and then right.
I have had a chance to do some more testing tonight. I can easily recreate what I mentioned above. Again, you hit pause and the next direction you try, whether it be left or right it will skip backwards 2 minutes. You can then skip forward or backward normally and it works fine.
I also noticed and didn’t mention above that when you are done skipping forward and go back to hit the pause button you have to select it twice for the video to start playback again.
@Andrroid - any luck recreating this using my method yet?
