I am not sure I understand the reasoning to require a separate plex pass subscription for every single user that would like to use the new Skip Intro feature that was recently revealed.
Is this a feature which will eventually be accessible to managed users?
In a household of 4, this means that 20$/mo instead of the 5/mo it used to be.
I don’t think anyone will go ahead and pay 5/mo on top just for the skip intro feature if they are a managed user.
Is this feature part of the 6$ or-however-much-it-is one-time purchase to unlock playback on Mobile devices that’s offered through IAP?
As a current plex pass subscribed and plex server admin, I honestly feel weird about telling my family members that the single feature they’ve been asking for forever is only 5$/mo per person away (or whatever other pricing scheme).
I’d like to think there’s a reason behind this but as all this is done server-side and from what I understand no external service is required, I do not see a valid reason to treat this feature separately in terms of pricing as I would consider the generation of video preview thumbnails or analyzing the playback loudness of audio files. I can’t think of anything else that home users need to pay extra for if the admin has an active pass.
Just some thoughts, I’m honestly curious what’s the t. I’m just hoping there was a mistake somewhere… I’ve seen a good amount of people have been discussing this in all sorts of chat-rooms and have been quie vocal of their opinions so I thought it would be good to have this in the open.
This wording makes this quite dubious. I have been struggling to replicate this behaviour for my home users from the web viewer, and this is what I’ve been shown a couple times by others.
Specificially the “server admin and plex account used”
Managed users, but not shared users under the umbrella of a Plex Home. Why does there need to be a distinction? These are users I have directly identified as living under the same roof as me and sometimes these users have their own accounts so they can access Plex from anywhere/any device without needing my username/password to access media from their devices
Thanks, that clarified the text in brackets but your point is valid.
I don’t intend to convert my users to managed users and give away my password for just this feature. I do have trust in my users in not abusing it but I definitely don’t trust my users in storing it right.
I hope they change this in an update soon as well as they did with plex amp, because I also won’t change all my users to homeusers, risking security even though the feature is cool and I don’t think is worth the hustle either.
my family members each have their own account, they really don’t wanna change to a managed user just for a skip intro feature, and I was excited about this feature for my friends too, now is like remember what I told you guys about the skip intro feature, nevermind.
Can’t just add them as a home user? I have all my users as a home user and they still all maintain their own login name and password. I require all users to set a pin and there isn’t any issues.
Users visible in home = {server owner} + {Managed users} + {Users with their own plex accounts, added into home}
people able to use this feature = {server owner} + {Managed users} + {Users with their own plex accounts, added into home who also have their own plex pass subscription}
God damnit… My wife is added to my home group with her own account and thus managed but she doesn’t have the skip intro feature! Earlier I think everyone in the “home” would benefit from the pass of the admin?
The “reasoning” behind it would be that it seems like a no-brainer to charge for something EVERYONE would be interested in. However, skipping intros is something too trivial and impractical to hide behind a paywall, and the confusing implementation doesn’t help matters. It would be just as perplexing if they decided to make the “next episode countdown” option a Plex Pass exclusive overnight. Features like those are inherently related to playback behavior, and no other streaming service considers them bonus attractions, but I sense that PLEX is still struggling to find competent lures that make the Plex Pass a justified investment for customers, in the absence of heavier draws like the defunct Plex Cloud.
I find the transcoder limitations so awful I dont bother sharing my server anymore anyways. If plex have to paywall cool features like this to pay the bills, then Im all for it. I allready payed, and I dont have users compaining about missing features anyway
