I am trying to understand how I can improve the time delay when changing channels. I was previously unaware of this issue. Hoping could recommend perhaps some setting or hardware changes. Current config resides on a UniFi ecosystem (UDM-SE) all with fast ethenet connections.
Have a HDHomeRun Flex Quad OTA tuner, connected w coaxial cable from antenna, network ethernet connected, New Asustor AS6702T with Processor being Intel® Celeron™ CPU @ 2.00GHz and 4.00 GB Memory. It also can be expanded as it has four M.2 slots for caching or storage or both. System also has (unused presently) two 2.5GbE ports that can be utilized (haven’t looked into this yet).
I have the TV hardwired to the UniFi UDM-SE router/switch and the issue is with my LG Smart TV Model 65UN9000AUJ.
Suggestions welcome. I was unclear were to post as still new to this site.
I’m not very much on the tuner side of things so asked some folks if they have any ideas and to look to see if it is being slower than usually for them. but afaik it would just be the nature of most streams being sent to server then to player apps. The Smart TV app cannot play very much natively so it needs to be transcoded/converted which would take a moment.
Thanks BigWheel - I timed the channel delay last night and it is taking between 9 to 12 seconds to switch channels. Seems vid comes first and audio follows.
Have the Asustor AS6702T NAS running PMS and my router/switch is UniFi UDM-SE - all hardwired
A lot of the smart tv Plex apps do not support many playback options. I bet most certainly your streams are transcoding which would be the reason for the channel change delay.
For example my Roku Sticks and Firesticks have nearly everything in regards to playback support and experience very little delay in changing channels. Just 2 or 3 seconds from a tuner card.
