Slow network?

I have a home built Xpenology server storing my library of media, a gigabit ethernet network and a Roku 3 connected to my TV. If I select some media on the Roku 3 to view on the TV I get a percentage count-up which frequently stalls, typically 13% and 66% before it commences playing, once it starts there is no buffering.
Maybe this is normal but I just think it should be more instantaneous. If I open the Plex web app on my desktop PC, I can select the same media almost instantaneously.

Should I just accept this situation, I am generally very happy with the overall package?

If I wanted to investigate further where do I start. I have located logs on the Xpenology server but as is frequent with logs, I can’t see the wood for the trees?

Thanks

First try accessing Plex Web from a device other than your Plex Media Server. And make sure to access it from the same type of connection (wireless/Ethernet) and from the same distance (do not stand next to your router if your Roku is on the other side of your house) as your Roku. That will help you see if it is a network/wireless issue.

Also it may be that the file is transcoding on the Roku and not Plex Web. The codec support for each Plex player varies.

Otherwise, you can post in the Roku section of the forum and include all the details of your issue and your testing and include your Roku logs.

macowens did you ever find a solution to slow roku loading times? Thanks

No, I am hoping the media optimization option will develop and allow a permanent background media transcoding option.
