Slowness on opening movies

Hello all,

I have been experiencing slowness with plex for about three months now and no matter what I do I cant speed things up.

Basically when I load a movie from the full list view it can take up-to 30 seconds to load the movies metadata it seems to get stuck on the processing function. I have optimised the database many times the database is held on a 500GB kingston SSD and the system has 16GB of ram - its based of an Intel i3 4150. The CPU when monitored in task manager never peaks above 15% when loading the movie & The local C drive is a 128GB SanDisk SSD.
The Plex server has a single 1Gbps uplink to a manage switch and the Mac Pro has a 2Gbps uplink to that same switch.

All the movies are stored on a Synology NAS with a 4Gbps trunk to the same switch,

I can’t think of anything left I can do as I’m pretty confident I have eliminated all bottle necks I can think of.

If anyone has any ideas on what could be the cause please let me know as its driving me a little mad now, I can provide logs if you need them.

FYI this only seems to affect movies, TV shows seem to load fine.

Thanks all !

The fact that your media are on a NAS, which spins down its disks when not in use, contributes to your woes. Consider letting them spin down only after longer periods of time. Or keep them them spinning even.

Apart from that, try this:
Settings - Server - Scheduled Tasks - ‘Remove old cache files every week’ <-- UNcheck

This may make a difference medium-term or not. It is worth a try nonetheless.

The second thing requires a bit more effort:

Thank you so much, I would never of thought about the movies folders ! make so much sense. Thank you
