Smart collection sorted by "Last Episode Date Added" does not sort properly

Server Version#: 1.41.0.8994
Player Version#: 10.22.1.1607

I have a smart collection with two advanced filters:

  • Unwatched Episodes: true
  • Show Collection is [collection]

I have added the collection to the TV Shows library Recommended section.

On the web, the collection appears to show the correct order, both on the Recommended tab and on the collection itself. On Android TV (Nvidia Shield) the order is not correct on the Recommended screen, it is correct on the collection itself.

I see a lot of reported issues with this, both on the forums and on reddit. But none of them show any sort of resolution.

This reddit post seems to summarize the issue the best “After a bit of troubleshooting it looks like nearly all clients are using sort By Date Added instead of sort By Last Episode Date Added and this is despite them having the sort available in library view. This problem affects new and existing collections:”

Edit: It only happens when you have 2 or more filters on your Smart Collection.

List of posts I found:

Found also that the sorting is correct if you have only a single filter on the Smart Collection, but breaks as soon as you add a second filter.

No one else is having this issue?

I’m having this issue. Most TV Shows indicate “2 months ago” regardless of when the last episode was added. Have tried with and without filtering “Unwatched Only”. Does not change.
Ubuntu server (Plex ver: 1.41.4.9463-630c9f557)
Viewer: Both Google TV Streamer and NVIDIA Shield
Storage: Some shows are on a local mirrored drive, others are on a WD SAN. Again, no difference in the “last episode date added”. Let me know what more information I can provide, this has been an issue for months on multiple Plex versions. I originally thought it was a problem with my media as I had an “issue” that blew away some Metadata and made older shows look new.

Update: Didn’t think to check the web player. Web player on MacOS/Firefox seems to work correctly, so this seems like a Google Play app issue possibly and not a server side issue.
