Smart Collections Issue

I’m having an issue with my smart collections which are pinned to my library. They are set to ‘random’. I assumed that this would randomise the order of the collection each time I refresh/load the page displaying the collection.

However there are 2 issues:

  1. In webapp the order continues to randomise every 5 seconds which doesn’t give me a chance to click on anything.
  2. On android app on my TV, the app displays duplicates of each movie.

Are these known issues that are being worked on?

I see #1 happen when I try and use random as well

But after see the random issue in plex/web I didn’t go any further with it and disabled random

On Windows - it works wonderfully.

A new list on a page load.
No updates occur to that list unless:
You leave the page it’s on and come back (page load)
or
Change the watch state of an item in the list
or
Add an item to the library
or
the library is doing something, like maintenance, VPTs, etc.

I have no current complaints, really.

I’m using it for Movies.
TV Shows hit an iceberg and sank on it’s maiden voyage.

Fair enough. It is definitely off putting. It’s just quite nice to have dynamic collections on the recommended tabs. Not sure how else to achieve that without using ‘random’…

That’s interesting to learn about the triggers. I wasn’t doing anything that could have caused a trigger, and plex was scanning my TV library in the background as I was browsing my Movies library so it is pointing more towards buggy behaviour.

I’ve also had a third regular bug where Plex randomly chooses two movies to occupy the same space resulting in the movie titles overlay each other, which makes it very hard to read.

Also, it would be great to control the randomisation (page load, hourly, daily, weekly etc…) Future feature request perhaps.

I think if they get it - debugged for your system - you’ll be happy with it.

Definitely sounds buggy - and I’ve not seen any of what you describe.

Yeah it’s a catastrophic mess on my linux system. Constantly randomising movies indiscriminately and loading the CPU, causing it to lose a secure connection to the server while it loads all the data, then reconnecting, then disconnecting etc… nightmare.

Here’s an example of the movies loading on top of each other and the text becoming illegible:

. I’ll try and take a .gif of the constant randomising behaviour as it’s proper mad.
