Smartlist options

Hello,
I am trying to build a smartlist for music and having some struggles. My first one I think I finally figured out. I had saved the smart list and went to the playlist folder and nothing appeared. Apparently it takes a while to create and show up there as my test playlists are appearing there now.

Here’s my issue:
I would like a smartlist of songs “track last played” in not last 6 months and not certain genres, like holiday, show tunes, etc. That all works when I click apply . However it always starts with the same songs/artist. For example if i am sorting by album artist I get 7 songs by “3 doors down” then more from “10,000 maniacs”, etc. How can I make it random and select any from the list of tracks and not just in alphabetical order? At this rate I would be stuck on the “a” for a while and then can refresh and hit b’s but the purpose is to be random and get any artist, or any song on any refresh, as long as it was not listened too recently. I guess i could sort by track name and build the list so it randomizes and each set of 100 tracks (I limit this to 100 items) would be via track name. So then i will get tracks all starting with a number but not same artist.

Any options?

You can do it, but not in the UI. This How-To explains the entire process.

You’ve done most of that already. The one step you need is this: after you’ve created your filters and applied them, but before you create the Playlist, edit the URL in your browser’s address bar. Below is the step in that How-To (search the How-To for “random” and you’ll jump right to it):

• click in the URL of your browser, scroll to wherever the “&sort=” keyword is (like &sort=originalTitle), change it to &sort=random (removing the original column)

Once you’ve created the playlist, every time you open it or refresh it, the order will change
