[SOLVED] NVidia Shield Playback issue / buffer / lag with 'some' 1080p MKV's

I just thought this might be of interest, in case someone else encountered this and gets as temporarily frustrated as I was.

I created a temporary Plex account and connected it with my NVidia Shield, then to my Samsung TV.

I found that with one film, the playback was laggy, every 30 seconds or so it would buffer. After fiddling with the wrong settings, then playing a different 1080p MKV perfectly well, I looked at the audio settings of the problem MKV. The audio was set to TrueHD 5.1, as soon as I went for an option that didn’t include ā€œTrueHDā€, it worked perfectly again. Phew.

I’m still very happy with Plex though (have plex pass on a non-Shield account with my TrueNAS Server), works very well, though I’ve yet to see what 4K is like. I’m looking forward to putting some personal videos and photos on there, and I’ll soon be installing it on an elderly colleagues computer, so they can easily share videos/pictures with their immobile partner on a TV.

Do you mean that file has multiple audio tracks and you chose a different one?

Yes indeed, that’s correct. If it’s an obvious issue, I’m happy to have admin remove the thread, only trying to be helpful.

it is helpful. means there is some issue with TruHD tracks. Thanks for reporting.

Oh, well you’re very welcome then - sorry, didn’t see the ā€˜Employee’ bit. Screen shot of the file if helpful. :+1:
