Hi,
I’m facing a weird issue when transcoding HEVC 10 bits movies on my Plex Server.
Since we are now forced to spend more time at home, I noticed than more people in my family started using my Plex Server, and we can sometimes be 3 or 4 users watching simultaneously on different devices.
Here is a summary of what works, and what does not.
Since the Direct Play is working fine with or without hardware decoding / encoding, I’ll be talking only when transcoding is necessary.
- Without hardware decoding / encoding
Transcoding is ok,but the CPU is suffering, running at 100% almost all the time. One person watching a HEVC movie with transcoding will be fine, but if another playback is started, things start to be complicated, with some buffering time.
Same thing will happen if I decide to start a movie from the beginning, to resume a movie from the previous state, or to move forward (in the middle of the movie for example).
- With hardware decoding / encoding
Things are much better for the CPU, running at an average of15% for one movie being transcoded. Three playbacks will be working fine… only if starting a movie from the beginning.
As soon as I try to resume a movie, or to move forward, the playback stops, with the buffering icon, and it never comes back from this state.
On the server, the transcoder process is still there, but with absolutely no activity.
So, currently, I only have the choice between limiting my family from watching HEVC content (more and more new content is HEVC), or ask them to always start from the beginning (which is not really comfortable)
Any help, any idea you could have would be appreciated.
I guess you’ll need some log files, but not sure which ones I should upload.

Thanks
