Hi, I am having problemes with 2 channels, Discovery and national geographic. When i try to watch any of those 2 channels live, Plex fails and closes them again after a short while, on all devices i have tryed, PC, Apple TV, iPhone/iPad, but i can record them and watch after with no problems. I live in EU and using HDHomeRun EXPAND i have attached log file after trying to watch from my iPad

kind regards Flemming

iPad ? if using Plex for iOS app on iPad then the log for the app would be from within settings / Help & Support / Debugging / Share Debugging Data / and select Email to email the zip iOS app to your mailbox

Would also need corresponding server logs. First ensuring debug logging enabled
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/
and restarting the server to get fresh logs before reproducing the issue

to capture the server logs https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/ and the iOS logs as outlined above

Please indicate what time the issue arose and what channel

(The log you attached is for the Plex Web app)

Any update? I’m currently using dvblogic for streaming tv, but I’m hopning to move to plex, but I wanted to test it first to see how it is working, but I can’t make the switch if not all channels are working.

Kind regards Thun

Thanks for the logs. The live tv transcoding is starting but I see a lot of errors logged and the iOS app is aborting the session after 20 seconds

Lots of errors like these are logged

Feb 02, 2018 02:22:59.836 [0x7fb858d11700] ERROR - [Transcoder] [ac3 @ 0x1d37460] frame sync error
Feb 02, 2018 02:22:59.838 [0x7fb855511700] ERROR - [Transcoder] Error while decoding stream #0:2: Invalid data found when processing input

This was for channel 017

Feb 02, 2018 02:22:55.010 [0x7fb855511700] DEBUG - Request: [10.8.0.10:53860 (WAN)] POST /livetv/dvrs/2/channels/017/tune (11 live) TLS GZIP Signed-in Token (NasThun)

You said that recording works ok for this channel but not live tv
Would like to see logs for a recording of a programme on this channel to compare

Thx for the help

I have now created the new logs you asked for, its from the same channel and all is done from my iPad.

Recording is “Yukon Men (2012) - S04E07 - Blood on Their Hands.ts”
Timeline is as follows, give or take a few sec
23:27:47 - Starts recording on channel 017
23:28:50 - Stops recording
23:29:30 - Starts playback of recording
23:30:30 - Stops playback

I have also uploaded mediainfo for the TS file I recoreded “Yukon Men (2012) - S04E07 - Blood on Their Hands.ts” After I created the logs, I added a new channel to my DVR, which uses almost the same video and audio specs as channel 017 but that works with live watching, only differences is that channel 017 has dual audio, ac3+MPEG Audio and uses another type of “Scan type, store method: Separated fields” where the channel that works is using “Scan type, store method: Interleaved fields” I have also uploaded mediainfo for that channel “The Joneses (2009).ts”

I hope this helps with narrow down the problem.

Kind regards Thun

UPDATE:
I tried recording a file from the other channel that does not work either to see what video and audio spec its uses, and its also has dual audio tracks ac3+MPEG Audio but it uses “Scan type, store method: Interleaved fields” which the other channel that works also uses, so it might just be that extra MPEG Audio track that makes it bug?

Thanks for all the feedback. I will be referring this to the development team
But could you try the later beta releases. The logs I have are from 1.11.1.4753
Latest beta is 1.11.2.4772
and get me logs and zip of the Transcoder Sessions directory of a livetv session failing

You will need to prepare yourself tp copy out the /volume1/video/test/Transcode/Sessions/ directory before the 20 second timeout and cancellation of the session

Thanks

Thx again for helping.

Okay I have updated server to Version 1.11.2.4772 and created the logs + transcode sessions you asked for

Timeline is as follows, give or take a few sec:
18:33:10 - Starts live tv on channel 017
18:33:23 - copys sessions folder
18:33:34 - Fails to start live tv
18:34:00 - Starts recording on channel 017
18:35:30 - Stops recording
18:36:00 - Starts playback of recording
18:37:00 - Stops playback

One thing to note, after the update to the server, it began to use HW transcoding, so i disabled that. Before the update, HW was enabled, but it was using software transcoding, I’m 99,9% sure of that.

Kind regards Thun

Hi

I have a pre-release build of version 1.13.0 of Plex Media Server to give to you to try to see if this gets fixed with it
I will send you a private message with a link

Okay from what i have tested so fare everything looks good  can watch both channels now. I will try and use it as my daily driver, and see how things are doing as i also are experience some HW encoding problems when set to higher that 2mb, live tv keeps buffing every 30 sec or so, but only for a sec and the resumes playback, but it look like this build also healped with that as i see it much less now that i did before.
