Most of my movie collections are created automatically but a few are not. I have unchecked the collections from the legacy agent and I have it checked for the TMDB collections.
Go to one of these movies, click the pencil, and check the “Collections” tag field. Is the “lock” icon on the left-hand-side of it orange? If so, this field is locked and will not populate with any new collections that appear.
If not, then refresh metadata. Movies that are added to your library won’t retrieve collection data without a push from you to check for them. If your “Minimum Automatic collection size” setting is low enough, a metadata refresh should fix that.
If you still have an issue after my suggestions, please provide more info:
- Example of movies you know are part of a collection, but aren’t making one.
- Double-check that your library is set to do automatic collection size, and the number it is set to.
- Verify that you refreshed metadata for the offending movies after verifying the above.
Relevant side note: I run into issues with collections occasionally. I once had my minimum collection size set too low, at “1”. I figured any movies I had as part of series I would have the entire series. But then I started seeing single movie collections for movies I KNEW only had one movie. On investigation, I found that these movies had upcoming announced sequels. I found it annoying that Plex created collections for movies that weren’t even out yet, so I deleted these 1-movie collections. This locked the “collection” tag for the movie, so that a year later when the movie DOES come out, it prevented the movie from being added automatically to the collection (which re-created itself).
Thanks! I’m now on to something. It looks like all of my movies have the collections locked. I checked the first 10 and all show the orange lock how do i globally unlock them? My minimum is set to 2 which seems logical.
You can edit several movies at once and unlock the field that way: [HowTo] Selecting multiple items for edit, playlist, etc.
If it is actually your whole library (and you have a lot of movies in it), there is a hacky way to use the Plex server API to unlock the field on all movies at once: Reset all manual poster selections in a library at once or unlock other metadata fields
Thanks for the help! What I ended up doing was to move my files to another directory, scan the folder without the files, then move them back and scan again. What I ended up with is a much more accurate and complete collections section.
