I set up my Plex server a few months ago on a Mac Mini. I’ve been watching movies pretty much OK. However, I wanted to take advantage of the collections feature so I began manually creating a number of collections… about 30. Then I noticed that collections can be created automatically if the settings are proper. So I set the minimum automatic collection size to 2 and the collections to hide items which are in collections. After a few days I noticed that nothing had changed even though I know that there are many more collections in my library… I have over two thousand movies in the library.
After some reading, I saw some stuff on the internet that indicated maybe I needed to began all collections again fresh using specific instructions. So I deleted all collections, made sure no movies had any collection data and refreshed all metadata. I was pleased to see that now there are a large number of collections in my system.
However, I notice that many of these collections are incomplete. For example, even though I have every James Bond movie, the James Bond Collection shows only one film. I know that I can manually add additional movies to any collection, but I am concerned because of my past experience that I may cause Plex to yet again stop making collections automatically.
How can I get the omitted movies added to various collections without causing any problems? Do I need to start over yet again or have I done something incorrectly? Should I run the metadata refresh again and would that help at all?
