Some episodes of a series being identified, some not

Server Version#: 1.20.2.3402
Player Version#: Version 1.20.0.1406-f47a81b7

Hi there,
So I recently added 1 season of a TV show to my Plex media server. The server did not have any previous episodes of this series, and the season was the first in the series. I added the episodes in, and refreshed the library files, only to discover that only episodes 10-23 were discovered, and episodes 1-9 were missing. All the files are in the same file type with the same codec, and I know they are playable as I was able to use SMB to remotely access the media files themselves, and play them correctly with no issues. All the episodes are titled exactly the same, with the folder path being
TV Shows/[TV show name]/Season 1
and the file names being
[TV show name] Season 1 Episode 1
with Episode 1 being subsituted for the episode number, eg Season 1 Episode 17. I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this. I would be happy to manually fix it, however I am unsure how to.

Thanks.

Plex tries really hard, but I’m not optimistic about Season 1 Episode 1 being parsed correctly.

This is the recommended naming:

  • /TV Shows/ShowName/Season 02/ShowName – s02e17 – Optional_Info.ext

If you’d like to share some screenshots/examples of your files, we can give some exact naming recommendations.

Tools like FileBot or TinyMediaManager can make batch renaming significantly easier.

I will rename the files now, based on your naming recommendations. Thank you for your support.

Good luck!

I notice also that you have an extra level of folder in there.

  • NCIS / Season 1 / NCIS Season 1 / … files …

You don’t want that additional level of folder nesting.

  • NCIS / Season 1 / NCIS - S01E07.m4v
  • NCIS / Season 1 / NCIS - S01E13.m4v

yeah, just noticed. Thank you for noticing. I am almost done with renaming, and i shall return with results of whether or not it worked. Thank you for your help!
