Media Scan unable to detect all season / files in a TV show

Server Version#: 1.25.3.5409
Player Version#: varies per device

I have many TV shows and movies on Plex. A year ago, I had to move to a new PC and I did not transfer my library, instead I decided to start afresh. I recently noticed that a few of my TV shows had an incomplete number of seasons and episodes. This is despite the files being categorised quite well (show name"Season" + number\episode name + number) no matter how many times I rescan, the same incomplete list of episodes is detected.

I’ve looked at this article and the suggestions don’t apply. There are 7 seasons of content and all episodes have the same naming format, are of the same file format but only Season 4, 5 & 6 show up and with many missing episodes.

On my old PC, Plex was able to detect all the episodes of the same content (from the same drive) without issue. Is the database corrupt? Have the episodes / seasons been excluded somehow? I’m at a loss.

That is irrelevant if it’s the wrong format.

Only this one is supported: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

If you are missing whole seasons, look up the show on TheMovieDB.org or on TheTVDB.com and see if it has been re-organised. Sometimes new seasons eventually end up in their own, separate show. Or seasons get completely reshuffled, with episodes changing their seasons.

Do also keep in mind that the new tv show agent is using the episode ordering of TheMovieDB by default.
If you want to use one of the available orderings from TheTVDB instead, you have to select it in the properties of the individual show.

I could understand that if the meta data for the shows wasn’t being detected (which happens for some non-US content that I have) but it doesn’t account for the inconsistent addition of content.

My naming format matches the guidelines, minus the year, which has never been an issue nor is it something that any of the other content that I have implements.

To be clear, I’m not posting this about the meta data, the content does not appear in Plex at all despite it being included in scanned folders.

Please show the actual file names, folder structure and add which folder level has been added to the Plex library.

Thank you, here’s the structure:

TV Series <root>
- Season 1
-- [1.01] The Power.mkv
-- [1.02] Just Set Up The Chairs.mkv
-- ....
- Season 2
- Season 3
- Season 4
etc

Has there been a change to the media scanner that makes this format invalid now?

That format has never been officially supported. If it worked, you were basically lucky.

Read the document @OttoKerner linked. Follow it explicitly.

For example:
/TV Shows/Show Name (year) {tmdb-xxxxx}/Season XX/Show Name (year) - sXXeYY - Episode Name.ext

Some information, such as the year, TVDB/TMDB ID, & episode name are optional, but help with matching, especially if there are TV shows with reboots/similar names.

That format has never been officially supported. If it worked, you were basically lucky.

Ok, well I’ll chalk that up to good luck in the past.

Thanks @OttoKerner & @FordGuy61

This is doubly wrong.
Not only are the file names unsupported, but whta you have marked as root is actually not the root of the library.
You only add the folder to your library which contains the folders of the individual shows.

TV Series <root>
   Show Title
      Season 01
         S01E01 - The Power.mkv
         S01E02 - Just Set Up The Chairs.mkv
         ....
