Certain files will not play. I have took a screenshot of the console here. Can anyone tell me how to make these files play please?
The file uses the HEVC/H.265 video codec. If you were trying to play this in the Plex web app (i.e. in a web browser) then playback will require the server to transcode HEVC to AVC/H.264 in realtime.
If your server cannot do that, playback will fail.
thanks for the info! is it a hardware limitation that prevents it from transcoding? or is there something I can do to make it transcode?
Edit: It seems to play on my computer downstairs (i7 6700K / GTX 1070) but not on my media server computer (i5 2500k / GTX 560Ti) so I assume its a hardware problem
It’s a browser problem. Since not all brwosers support the HEVC codec, Plex will always transcode HEVC video.
The best strategy is to not use a web browser for video playback.
Use the Plex for Windows/Mac player (download below) or Plex Media Player
