Some home videos turn sideways when streaming them on the Firetv Cube. The videos play correctly on my fire stick devices, on my laptop with VLC or Plex server, and on my iPhone or other mobile device. For some reason it’s JUST the firetv cube that won’t play them properly. The thumbnail shows the correct orientation but then they turn sideways when playing. I’ve searched the forums and there is nothing helpful with this specific issue. I’ve uninstalled the app and reinstalled it hoping that would fix the issue. I’ve gone into the Plex settings on the firetv cube app and tried changing video playback options. Nothing seems to work. My firetv cube is running current software of 7.2.3.4 (PS7234/2042), Fire TV home version 6311085.1 and Plex version 8.17.1.25326 (a6ce558e)
I have attached photos of one of the videos that plays sideways. One photo is of the video before I begin playback. You can see the thumbnail and the background show the correct orientation. The other photo is what happens when I actually play it.
You should be able to attach videos, if it’s relatively small. If it isn’t working, upload it to Google Drive or other sharing site and send me the link.
Only files allowed for uploading or attaching are photo and document files, nothing with video file extensions are being allowed. Here is the link to the Dropbox with a copy of the file. Hopefully you can access it. I can even play these files through Plex on my smart TV. The fire TV Cube is the only device not playing certain files properly.
Interesting the link to the Dropbox file actually puts the video IN my reply. You don’t even have to go to Dropbox to view it. And it’s playing correctly!
Out of curiosity, what’s the “origin story” for these videos?

Sometimes rotation issues can be improved if you force transcoding. I don’t know what the options are on the Fire, but disabling Direct Play and Direct Stream, enabling “Automatically Adjust Quality”, or just manually forcing a lower bitrate can be enough.
Yes it works great on fire stick and every other device I’ve tried. Just not the cube. Unfortunately this video is not the only one that doesn’t play correctly (it goes sideways) on the Cube. Some are edited screen recordings and others are videos recorded on a mobile device. I’ve tried different settings on Cube with no success.
