Some mechanism to skip to next/previous episode on AppleTV

Hello,

I’ve been using Plex for some time on iOS, web, and Roku. I recently replaced the Roku with an AppleTV and was surprised to find there’s no ability to skip to next/previous episode like on other platforms. Is it possible to have this added on AppleTV, or, if there’s a limitation to the tvOS platform, maybe a menu item or a remote key press combo? I didn’t realize how much we used this until I was scrubbing through entire episodes to get to the next in a shuffled playlist.

+1 upvoted the suggestion. Asking Siri is painful and takes relatively ages whereas just grabbing the remote and hitting next is much easier.

Agreed. I have a ShieldTV and AppleTV for my clients and I get extremely annoyed when using AppleTV because of this!

+1 agreed. Additionally, the ability to see the upcoming play queue like you can on other devices to skip multiple items at a time.

Upvoted. Totally agreed: the UI is so limited. These next/prev buttons definitely needed.

I don’t know if it is an apple tv limitation but the OSD is severely limited compared to the Android TV version for example.

This is promising, I hope this will add at least up next to plex as that would massively help

+1, I recently switched to using an Apple TV 4K as my main Plex client and it’s great except for the media controls being different like this. I like to shuffle whole shows or collections of shows so it’s really nice to be able to easily skip to the next episode like on most (all?) other clients.

+1, how is this not a basic feature? I can’t think of any media player that doesn’t allow you to ‘skip to next’. Imagine having to fast forward Spotify songs to get to the next song. How is this any different?

I agree this feature needs to be added, I have no idea how many times while watching a tv show on shuffle that I want to skip the episode and yet I cannot unless I fast forward to the end and let it play another episode.
I can do it on my iPhone when watching something no issues and love it.

I’m on 15.6 and still doesn’t see this option?

+1 (or +1000) to this - would love for this seemingly basic feature to be added to the UI here. It’s frustrating to have to fast forward or ask Siri every time that I’m on shuffle and want to skip to the next episode. Let alone, not even having the play queue available. I’d settle for just a skip option for now!

Almost a year later and this is still not a thing. How hard can it be to add this otherwise standard feature?

+1 It’s disappointing that the iOS app has less functionality than other platforms. Would love to even just have a menu on screen with those functions would work.

I fudged this as I’m using Home Assistant and its apple TV integration. This allows me to create a widget on my phone with back and forward options that work on Apple TV. So next/previous works for me but that extra step shouldn’t be necessary.
Again, the OSD on the Apple TV is so crippled compared to the Android TV versions it’s not even funny (but apple TV does have the end time for a video, which android doesn’t have).

+1, upgraded to ATV from Roku and overall it is such a better experience as far as responsiveness, but no playlist/next/skip is major hassle, especially when not using Siri

I totally agree with all of you, but I don’t think its the plex developers, I think Apple might have something to do with limiting the plex app functionality, its just a guess but think about it. The Apple TV is the only streaming device missing those features, ever wonder why that is? I think Apple made the tvOS too closed off for the plex developers to add the features. We have been requesting this feature for a while now and no progress. I think if they could’ve added the feature, they would’ve. If I am wrong I will admit it but, what other reason could they have?
