Greetings everyone, first post in this forum, I love Plex and have been using it for a few years now.
Admin please move this if it’s in the wrong classification. I bought a Synology ds918+ and in the process of having my 2 sons (avid downloaders of movies and tv shows ) and all of us are moving our many files , while I am converting all my DVD’s (100’s ) of movies using mkv.
now to my question, some of the tv episodes do not have a photo displaying as a tile in the Plex server or the Plex players in the Tivo Bolt’s I use . so I was wondering how I could go about adding such a photo if it’s possible to do.
ALSO look at the movie Tinker Taylor Soldier the first one has a tile/photo , but the second one does not , where is that photo stored at ? and how to copy and inject into second one ?
WOW thanks, you just gave me some serious homework. I am usually a very fussy organizer , but like I said some of the misspelled stuff is from my sons or grandkids. I will go through all. I was wondering what those numbers meant . there’s about 10 folders like that.

Is this from a browser (what kind of browser/device used) or PMP or windows PMP, etc? Try other browsers on other devices. If I use safari on iOS, sometimes the art doesn’t show like in your 2nd screenshot.
Is this for your entire library or just these in the snapshot?
Trumpy with all the info you gave me, I have cleaned up just about all the items, I’m working 60+ hours a week and have little time to do this, BUT , attached are the logs.
Now before some of you think I may be pirating, I own all these TV series that I have bought over the years and waTCHED ON dvd. Thing is I am LAZY and sometimes find downloading what is already on my shelves as not such a serious lack of character.
Now with that out of the way I downloaded the FRINGE TV series as it’s in boxes in my garage, so ; I’m having a problem with the MKV files I downloaded , Plex fails the optimize function set at " same quality " and all 100 episodes fail, I tired to play in the plex server from my computer but it shows a An error occurred trying to play “Pilot”. Error code: s1001 (Network) ? network?
any ideas on what is causing these errors? not optimizing and playback gives the network error ?OR get my lazy behind and start converting ? per your reccomendation, I just bought Filebot 4.8.2 with the life license. now to find some time later on this weekend, to run some things through it.
I know this may sound trivial . I have a video from PBS on my Tivo , I moved it a year ago and converted it can’t remember if I did or not, but it simply after refreshing metadata and optimizing, it get’s no tile/photo. these are well know PBS DVD’s , I’m saying this so maybe you guys know what’s wrong. it’s called Grand Canyon Serenade . now just for clarification I have all 3 blue ray dvd’s of these series, I love the beautiful nature scenery , while they play classical music from all the best composers to move your soul. My favorite is Red Rock Serenade filmed in the Utah national Parks and a couple of the ones here in California.
no matter what I will be buying the license for the MKV program and will be converting all 3 dvd’s to full quality no compression on these as I love the quality and sound.
I hate to be that guy that asks, how do you input the license into synology for filebot ? I downloaded the windows version and it took the license, so not sure if this license will work on the synology
I was trying to change names as you suggested per the standards that Plex and others use, BUT I forgot to change the folder path in the TV shows library. that is now corrected
I’m not sure where this is? I went to the synology Forums and clicked on FAQ , but it was about Forums usage. I searched around in the synology web site for my box and did not find it. I DO agree I need a CLEAN folder system that follows the standards. need to do more reading. I was not sure from the start if I should place the Plex Media (inside) the Plex folder on the root of the unit ? I will have to find where the homes setting is, I recall having clicked on it, but not sure right now. will find it tommorow in the Control Panel .
I will add some more comments tomorrow on your excellent post , IF I get more done over the weekend I will post logs again IF you ask.
The synology box is plugged into my 40 port giga-switch in front room , next to the new Cable Modem from Spectrum. I bet what is causing the problem is that I have the VPN client ON , so I can download using Download Station to get copies of DVD’s I own , but don’t want trouble from movie/tv companies. being a TV addict , I rather have crappy videos from internet while I take my time to convert dvd’s into mkvs . oh well not a angel ey !
I went ahead and uninstalled all 4 packages from the “community” folder, I also uninstalled the WEBstation as I am not using it , I figured it might be interfering with settings on the Apache Ant ?
rebooted, went in and installed the Java 8 from rednoah first, then the Apache , followed by FB and last by FBnode. I rebooted tried running the fb node by clicking on it’s icon , and I get the message on the screen shot here.
So I guess there’s something going on. where should I post this issue at ?
NO WORRIES. I unisnatlled ant. and java 8 and fb are running . this is probably a Java update has broken FB , because it’s using a " illegal " entry point hard coded in the program. I still have it working in this win10 machine.
I run into this at work with all the diagnostic software , a lot of them were written for Java 6 and since then it’s been a quaterly issue . right now I had to do a win 10pro updtae that took 1.8 hours , longer than it took to install it fresh.
now I have Handbrake working at last . this is one of those jobs I will let my autistic son do, I just built him a new Risen computer (not risen 2 too much money ) . he loves doing these jobs, and keeps him busy, he’s very computer savvy like his older brother that does system programming. even with the 6 cores on mine set to realtime it will take 2 hours to convert Grand Canyon Serenade to a default 1080p , just to test it.
Trumpy I figured it out. I went back to Rednoah’s installation page for Synology and RTFM , something I used to tell people back in the early 80’s on UseNet . LMAO at myself here.
Rednoah tells me to make sure I have node installed. I looked around the package tab and saw there’s several java nodes there, so I installed the node 8 , clicked back on run and voila! while I was looking on filebot’s web site I saw he has a 4.8.5 beta , and it’s running
