After deleting the cache, restarting Plex and clicking Refresh Metadata, the icon keeps spinning for 90 seconds but won’t update any artwork afterwards.
In other threads I read that Local Media Assets should have a low priority (or even be unchecked) to avoid issues with .mp4 files and embedded properties. Isn’t that correct?
Thanks for your replies and the clarification about LMA. I reset the configuration according to your suggestion. Just to note: In this particular case the file is an mkv.
I tried manually fixing the match, unfortunately no matches were found:
I wonder if I should just throw everything in the bin and start over again with a clean installation as I can’t tell for sure what’s going on on a process level. Plex works perfectly until… it doesn’t anymore and then it’s hard to tell why
In the agent configuration above, Click onto the ‘cog wheel’ icon at the end of the line ‘Plex Movie’.
Then set the ‘Cast list source’ to ‘The Movie Database’.
Refresh Metadata of the movie.
I live in Switzerland, central Europe. I have attached the requested logs: Plex Media Server Logs_2018-12-04_16-37-50.zip (4.9 MB)
It could be possible that some domains are blacklisted by the ISP. However, this would be something new since older movies didn’t have this issue.
Unfortunately, repeating all the steps doesn’t solve the issue. Do we have any further options that could prevent me from re-installing Plex? Are there more logs to analyze? Could @ChuckPa add more log-statements if that outgoing-call is unsuccessful in a future version of Plex
I am very grateful for your wonderful support. I’m quite curious if it’s possible to prevent this particular issue for other installations or assist users to resolve it otherwise.
I stopped Plex, renamed the libary, added a new folder, started Plex and added a new library targeting that folder. Afterwards I copied a movie from the renamed folder to that new folder. I picked a movie that was working before and which is an mkv.
As somehow expected, media files aren’t downloaded for that file:
So this means the installation as such is somehow corrupt and it isn’t because of the respective files. Just as a side note, I use filebot to rename files in order to match Plex’ naming conventions.
Is there a magic button to repair “everything” inconsistent?
I stopped Plex.
I renamed the folder “Movies” of the library “Movies” to “Movies.old”.
I created a folder “Movies-Test”, then started Plex and created a library “Movies-Test”.
I placed a file in “Movies-Test” and let Plex match it with the above results.
Apologies that I misunderstood you.
I followed your instructions, have now a clean library (in a new folder), inserted a file (.mkv) and let Plex discover it:
So the actors and a description are loaded - even rotten’s rating but unfortunately still no images.
I didn’t change any settings, so agents are configured with default values.
although it’s challenging if you’re not sure what you’re looking for
no firewall active on the NAS or in the network
no VPN in place
I would love to raise a feature-request in order to extend the logging for this particular exception: 2018-12-07 20:58:36,394 (7fc45c869700) : ERROR (networking:219) - Error opening URL 'http://127.0.0.1:32400/services/tmdb?uri=%2Fsearch%2Fmovie%3Fquery%3DTag%26year%3D2018%26language%3Den%26include_adult%3Dfalse'
I checked the DNS query log and see api.tmdb.org is successfully resolved to its IP address (104.16.57.155). So in my opinion Plex and/or tmdb know what the issue is but neither are are able to log it. If I knew there was a connection refused (i.e. port isn’t reachable) or a timeout or even a hint in the response status (i.e. 429 - too many requests or whatever) I could search further. But as long as Plex isn’t telling us what the underlying issue is, there’s not much I can do unfortunately.
I live in Brazil and I have a DS218+ and I am having the same problem. I am not sure how long this have been occurring, but today I downloaded a few movies and tried to get their metadata but I couldn’t.
I have tried a lot of thing even a fresh new install of plex but it didn’t work. Obviously this was a bad idea, because I also deleted plex user and plex share folder on the NAS. Now I don’t have any thumbnail for any movie I have (total of 115 movies).
I have read all messages on this post but none of this worked for me. It seems a problem related to the NAS connection because I installed plex media server on my macbook pro, set all agents in the same order, then I mounted my movie folders and let PMS scan. All images were downloaded with no problems.
Good news, I’ve just upgraded to 1.15.1.710 and confirm that all media is fetched and displayed as expected again. Thank you @trumpy81 for your support, and @ChuckPa please convey my gratitude to the Plex team.
