Hey there, some movies won’t start on the ps4 app. After clicking start the little bar at the bottom shows up with play, rewind, fast foward etc and the 3 … in the middle but nothing happens. I can’t click play “as you can do sometimes to force it to start”. Seems like the only solution is to download a different file the same movie. This problem only happens on the ps4 since i know that the roku will play them no problem so there is a problem somewhere with the ps4. Anyone have any ideas?
What server version and hardware are you running?
Can you post the media information for one movie which works and one which does not?
Server verison is 0.9.12.19 says its up to date. Ps4 version is 2.4.40. By hardware what do you mean?
No.Escape.2015.1080p.BluRay.H264.AAC-RARBG This one works
Everest.2015.1080p.BluRay.H264.AAC-RARBG This one doesn’t
Sorry for the media information I should have been more clear - I really need the media XML which can be found by following these steps.
On the film information screen chose “Info” from the sub menu.
On the Media Information screen click “Show XML”
Copy the section of the XML which starts <Media… and ends < /Media>

THIS IS THE ONE THAT DOESNT WORK
I attached word docs with both info from each files. For some reason it wouldn’t show them on the page if i copy and pasted. sorry if i’m being an idiot.
Very little difference between those film files from the media info, both are x264 level=41, Profile=High
The only notable difference I could see is the height (1040 for no Escape and 808 for Everest) but worth noting that although the PS4 client can direct play x264 it’s limit is level 40. This means Plex may well have been trying to transcode the films. In the PS4 app settings try changing this to 41 and see if it makes a difference.
If not I will need the server log files to try and work this issue out.
David
I’ve actually changed the x264 to 4.1 awhile ago since with 4.0 all media “movies, tv shows” buffered every few seconds. I’ve tried enabling media server logs before but i cant find them anywhere in my computer. Even when i’m using the support pages on here i still cant find them. I’ve restarted the server etc but nothing gets logged i’m guessing. Any help on doing this?
I’ve noted this behavior too. From testing various files, I’ve observed the following:
- 720p HDTV (video remuxed to MP4 - audio transcoded to 2.0 AAC) plays without issue.
- 720p BRRip Bitrate below 1Mbps (video remuxed to MP4 - audio transcoded to 2.0 AAC) plays without issue.
- 720p BRRip Bitrate over 1Mbps (video remuxed to MP4 - audio transcoded to 2.0 AAC) will not play.
The app is set to allow Level 4.1 in the settings and it DP both files that work, but doesn’t start playback on those that don’t.
I’ve attached info of 3 files to assist and will PM you a log if you let me know which you need.
