Hello! I have a few music videos loaded Inline that are not appearing in my music library. These files are a mix of MKV and MP4, but they are specifically files that are NOT matched with existing music tracks. They are in directories with other music files. They are named as follows:
Live From Canada Jam - Carry on Wayward Son-live.mkv
Live From Canada Jam - Dust in the Wind-live.mkv
Help! Mini-Documentary-behindthescenes.mp4
Rubber Soul Mini-Documentary-behindthescenes.mp4
Revolver Mini-Documentary-behindthescenes.mp4
I have already attempted to fix by doing the Plex Dance, but these videos refuse to appear. Files loaded inline that DO have accompanying music tracks show up correctly.
Any help/guidance would be helpful.
Thanks,
Neil Forker

Hello again. I apologize for seeming confrontational. I sincerely felt that I had an understanding of how in-line videos in music libraries work. Thank you again for continuing to help. Per your advice, I have read the article again. I think the following is the most important parts that are affecting my issue:
Inline Videos
You can keep your videos alongside your actual music files. Videos are identified by using specific naming and must be placed in a directory that contains a music track from the same artist.
Artist Videos
Interviews with the artists, behind the scenes footage, and more can be added to the artist in your library. In order to do so, you’ll need to ensure that the video files are named and organized appropriately.
I currently have my music library setup in this way:
Music/Artist/Album
While Plex would prefer this format:
Music/Artist - Album
It likely works fine for music because I use metadata from my files, which are tagged correctly. Maybe it breaks down for the videos.
With the presence of “behind the scenes” in the article for music videos makes me believe that they should appear in a music library as well. If the article is wrong, it should be considered for updating.
@OttoKerner or @elan - Can either of you point me in the right direction?
Here are some things that I’ve tried beyond what I’ve stated already:
Renamed “Live From Canada Jam - Carry on Wayward Son-live.mkv” to “Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son (Live from Canada Jam)-live.mkv” - Video does not show up in the music library.
Moved album folder from Music\Artist\Album\Video to Music\Artist - Album\Video - Video does not show up in music library.
Moved video to Global Music Video library as defined in Agent Local Asset setting as “Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son (Live from Canada Jam)-live.mkv” under MusicVideo\Artist\Video - Video does not show up in music library.
So, in short, in-line music videos that match with an existing music track work fine. All other music videos are not appearing.
I appreciate your help. For all of these videos, I do have the artists already in the library. In the case of Kansas and The Beatles, I have all of their albums in my music library.
I don’t want to create an Other Videos library for these. I’d like the videos to show up in the artist pages in my Music library as they have in the past. I have a few videos that work as expected, but they were added to my Music library a long time ago. These videos I’m trying to add now don’t show up at all.
I feel that something has changed in the new PMS music libraries where videos that are not tied to a music track are ignored. My Music library was a former Premium Library that’s been transitioned to the current music library type.
I don’t understand. You say “No Artist, no Music Video,” but as I said. I DO have an artist.
I do have the Local Media Assets agent enabled and it is the the top item on the agents list. Also, the Global Music Video folder is assigned in the gear option to the right.
I appreciate your continuing willingness to help. Please excuse my inabilities to read messages in context. I also seem to not be able to infer the correct inflection and tone while reading messages from you. I will try harder.
With that being said, please understand that I am not a novice with using Plex, but I would never claim to be an expert. This is why I am here seeking assistance with this.
Now then, to your statement and questions…
If that is the case and your files are named correctly, you should not have an issue.
With this, I whole-heartedly agree. The files are named correctly according the the support article we’ve referenced in earlier messages. Most are located inline with other music in the music library. There is one video that I added to King Crimson in 2016 that shows up and plays as expected. While the new ones I’m trying to add don’t show up at all.
Does user Plex have permission to read your Music video folder…?
Yes. I double checked the folder permissions for the Plex user on my DS1515+ today. It has Read/Write access to the “Video” shared folder where the “MusicVideo” folder is stored. The Plex user also has Read/Write access to the “Music” shared folder where the inline videos are stored.
…where on the NAS do you have that stored?
The “MusicVideo” folder that is set as the Global Music Video folder in the agents configuration is stored in the “Video” shared folder on Volume 1 of my DS1515+.
Does the indexing still happen if I’ve removed it from the indexing list? I only have the Moments app selected to index at the moment because I do not use Video Station or Photo Station.
I like the idea of having all the media on one share though. It will take some doing, I think. I have some Hyper Backup backups running on my existing media folders. I’ll see if there is a way to move those safely.
An update on my Music Video problem…
I thought I’d test with a new Music library. So, I created one called “Music - Test” and pointed it to the same “Music” folder the existing library is pointed to. All of the music videos appeared and played as expected.
So, something seems to have happened to that existing music library. I don’t know if there is a fix, but a new music library seems to be a way around it. Not ideal, since I’ve built quite a few playlists over the years.
In theory all you should need to do is refresh an artist to get it to look for new music videos. However, if you don’t have an upgraded music library, it’s possible this won’t work. If you haven’t already, I recommend you upgrade your music library as detailed here https://support.plex.tv/articles/upgrade-music-libraries-new-metadata-system/
