Some plex apps now giving error: “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”

Problem:
I get this message when I try to play any movie, home movie, or music using Android OS App and Shield App
“An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”

Apps that give me the error:
Android Plex App (running on Samsung Note 20 Ultra)
Shield TV Plex App

Apps that work fine:
Windows 10
iPhone 12
Xbox S

Background:
This started happening after I moved my Plex Media Server from a Windows 10 computer to my Synology 920+. Prior to that there were no problems. All files played fine on all of my various apps.
The media files have always been hosted on the NAS. The media files have not been moved or altered.

Solved! Thanks @trumpy81.

As suggested, I did the “manual install”, which updated PMS from 1.18.5 to 1.23.1 and now everything works as expected.

I didn’t really believe that the official Synology Plex version would be so far behind the current version, but it really is. So, for anyone experiencing this error, please go do the manual install. :grimacing:

My head is hung in shame for having missed this step.
