I have been using Plex for many years and have a large Video library of mostly movies. I use HD Home Run, download or convert from DVD as appropriate. I use a windows based PC for my Plex server and it is the current version. I searched the forum before posting and could not locate an answer for my issue.
I noticed late last year that some items I add to the video folder are not showing up in Plex although they are in the movie directory folder and play fine on the PC. There seems to be no pattern, it is just random titles. I checked the meta data on the movie and nothing is obvious to me such as being copy protected. I also checked for duplicates under different names and dealt with any of those.
I did a lot of testing, after changing the file name then adding to the directory it briefly shows up in Plex and then goes away. I have downloaded test videos that I know are not already on my PC and they do not show up either.
Does Plex block some videos from being added to the media server on their end based on restricted content or pattern matching? Is there anything I need to check on the meta data, permissions, etc? Do I need to convert the file to another format if they are MP4 and do not show up?
Example: I have a video from a concert and Plex won’t recognize it, I am starting to wonder if it is being blocked because of the music or video content. I did a test with some music videos and none of them will show up either.
