Hello, this is gonna take a bit to describe. Firstly, I am running Plex on a laptop… and have been for years I store my media files on an external hard drive. I then run the plex player on roku and watch my movies/tv shows…etc. I have had everything work just fine for a long time. A few months ago however I wanted to clean up the laptop and my plex database (I move a lot of files on and off the hard drive but Plex never removes them from the database no matter how many times I optimize etc. However, that is not what this is about)
I know I have had everything set up properly in the past. All the metadata was correct for all my videoes etc. However, when I reinstalled plex and created my new libraries something strange is happening
My folder structure, naming of files is exactly the same as before. The place I am having a problem Under my “Television” folder I then add a folder for each show.so for instance a folder for “All in the Family” or Star Trek etc. Under those folders there are other folders Season 01, Season 02, etc. And the files are in there labeled s01e01 etc.
Well, when I add the television library and Plex starts building the data base it is doing the following… some shows are perfect, correct metadata correct titles of individual episodes and photos from the internet, yet some shows are not being tagged at all. They simply have a photo that is generated from the video itself… no titles to episodes, descriptions or anything. Yet these shows have the same structure and are in the same television folder as the ones that are working.
When I add the library I added the Television folder as a whole, not the individual shows, so they all have the same settings. So for instance, Family Guy is not being tagged, no metadata yet it certainly worked before. So I created a new folder in the root of the drive named Test, I copied a couple seasons of Family Guy there and added the library with the same settings as the television library. There it worked… everything was labeled, titles of episodes etc. But when those same exact files, with the same exact settings are in the Television folder, they are not being tagged with any data. Yet other shows are… I hope this was not too lengthy…
