Some song titles disappeared

Can we please get some staff support for the reported issues here? I am still on v1.17 waiting for reports of this being resolved.

If Plex (or it’s provider) doesn’t know what the song title is, it should use the ID3 Title tag and not replace what was already in the Plex DB with null values when a library scan is triggered and new songs are detected. I don’t want or need Plex to be able to lookup online and find the song metadata for everything in my collection. For commercial tracks, it’s fine. For my own privately-produced music the new versions simply do not work.

Hello. I am in the same boat. I’m running on Version 1.4.1.940-574c2fa7 Mac
I have thousands of vinyl transfers that I am migrating over from hard drive and they all have correct artist, album, & song titles when imported to itunes but when I load into Plex only a small percentage show any of the metadata. Extremely frustrating because none of these are commercial titles. They are obscure reggae that doesn’t exist on stream. Refreshing meta data doesn’t work. I try to manually input the metadata and turn around to find it’s gone. I don’t understand this. If itunes recognized the metdata there’s no reason why Plex should have trouble.

@Ryan_R and @truthsandrights Have you tried changing the library setting to prefer local metadata?

Yes I do have that setting enabled.

I have it enabled as well. Thanks for the tip though

I have the same problem.

It’s crazy that plex team knows about this bug since months and has done nothing about it.

Very disappointed

Same problem here, no song titles from time to time. Refreshing the artist fixes them but it’s getting cumbersome to have to do this to about 50% of songs that are added to the library.

Unfortunately that is how Plex has been for a while now. Instead of fixing bugs that have been known for months or even years more and more online sources that nobody asked for are added.

I have been having the same problem for a while. All was well until an update a couple of months ago. I tried everything including moving from windows to linux platforms, using mp3tag application to update all the files.
Eventually what worked was changing the Agent for the library from “Plex Music” to “Personal Media Artists”, then refresh all metadata. I hope it lasts!

I created this linter, which detects this and other problems:

It doesn’t fix things (it’s read-only), but it will help you figure out which tracks this has happened to.

Plex music matching has really gone downhill considerably. I am constantly trying to fix matches that do not line up with the tags saved in the mp3 files.

e.g.

The track “Living in America” by The Sounds is on their 2003 album “Living in America”. Why does Plex match it to “Dying to Say This to You”? No one knows, because the tags are all 100% correct.

Why does this happen? Because Plex music matching is complete garbage, that’s why. And no one gives a damn.

Hi,

I tried your suggestion but in this way I lost all album covers.

I found somehow a solution using Plex Music Scanner as scanner and last.fm as Agent.

In this way, when I add a new song, nothing bad happens

It looks like the most updated version hopefully has finally fixed the problem. Just have to manually refresh Metadata on every album affected.

One thing to watch for is if you do refresh manually and it doesn’t work, check the properties of the track(s) by choosing edit.

I found that on occasion the lock icon is enabled on the title even though it’s empty (blocking it from being updated). Setting it off and then doing the manual refresh then should work.

I’m also having this problem with music in my library.

Where can we get 1.17 versions of PMS?

Same problem here with latest version on Docker. I updated the titles and artists manually and then after some time they just disappear. :rage:

Hi all, so the problem is solved?

Edit:
Just tried to activate plex music again… After I add a new song, all artist tags get broken.

So they didn’t fix it anything!

It’s embarrassing, I’m sorry to have bought a lifetime subscription.

This problem is STILL not solved, happened to me today on Version 1.18.9.2571 running on Windows 7.

I am having this issue also is there any fix in site. Some of my track titles are blank are have the artist names as the track title.

Hello all,

I too have a collection of songs that Plex Scanner refused to cooperate with. Almost every ‘unreleased single’ I had in an album called ‘singles’ would lose every song title when I refreshed the library or updated metadata.

I found a solution which works for me and might for you (assuming your tracks are tagged appropriately).

Go to edit your music library (for me Music (triple dots) > Manage Library > Edit)

Now click the ‘Advanced’ tab.

Ensure the first checkbox option is selected: “Prefer local metadata”

Now scroll to the bottom.

Under the ‘Scanner’ dropdown select ‘Plex Music Scanner’

now, under the ‘Agent’ dropdown select ‘Last.fm’

click ‘Save Changes’

Now if a change hasn’t happened automatically, refresh the metadata for your library and scan all files again.

For me it corrected everything. I could now tell that the tags I had input on the files themselves were being read. No more empty filenames, and no more problems for me.

I was even able to change the scanner and agent back to plex music (and scan library and refresh metadata) with no problems. I’m not sure what bug caused this to happen in the first place, but switching to the Last.fm to reset the database seemed to work for me.

Disclaimers:
I verified every track had tags in the ID3v2.3 (ID3v1 ID3v2.3) format

This didn’t fix everything. Some titles (markedly fewer than before) still had issues.

Some titles I had manually changed and locked earlier remained locked with no title. So I had to go through and unlock all of them for the Last.fm to update them.

Its been inconsistent. When I first switched to Last.fm EVERYTHING was perfect. Now its more like ‘most things’. I still can’t seem to find the pattern of exactly what seems to be causing issues for Plex with unreleased under the radar songs.
