Some update shut me out of my server (cannot access my library any more due to the ssl feature)

After some months I wasn’t using plex I trie to access my library today and to my huge surprise I’m shut out of my own server on my own local network.

I tried to connect to it with both the iOS app, and the client for Mac, and none of my libraries were accessible.
Checking the demon status on my server showed it running and netstat showed the expected ports.
So I tried to access the server directly thru the web interface.
It briefly complained to me about an unsecured connection, but it seemed to promise me it’d be fine as long as I was on the same local network (I am, my server is not accessible from the outside, so I actually don’t really care for it to have SSL at all!!!), and that I would have been able to follow these instructions to eventually enable secure connections.
Well, the result is “No soup for you!” (kind of annoying tho it doesn’t explain WHY!!!) and now I’m unable to access my library, and my server configuration so I cannot even fix whatever could be wrong for a feature I don’t even need.

How do I gain access to my stuff again WITHOUT having to delete the whole /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/ directory and having to start everything over?

Suggesting something might be wrong with my token and perhaps complaining about “Auth: authenticating the user as a guest”? Idk these logs arent very communicative to me :sweat_smile:

May I see the full tar.gz (which you manually create) captured about 2 minutes after restarting the server?

You can look if you wish. The specific error is “404” and “Unable to obtain cert from cloud”.

If you have those, I can easily reset it for you

It looks like you have a simple password / cert misalignment (in light of the recent outage)

I have reset the certificate.

Please log out of the browser (upper right) and then restart the browser.

Before opening the server, restart it and let it obtain a fresh certificate

After doing so, open it by http://ip.addr.of.host:32400/web

Lastly, if that doesn’t do it, we’ll edit the Preferences.xml file to turn off the secure requirement and get you back into it.

Your connection is showing a lot of timeout conditions which aren’t normally associated with either of the above so I’m not entirely sure either of these steps will work.

I’m not sure what do you mean: in order to logout from plex I open http://ip.addr.of.host:32400/web, and then logout.
How am I suppose to logout from a domain without accessing that domain?
I’m not even sure what do you mean by: “restart the browser.”, do you mean “quit and run chrome again”? What would that have to do with this?

Can you just point me in the right direction for this? I don’t see the point of having SSL on a local network that I alone access. It’s just one more thing that can break and cause unnecessary nuisances and wasted time like at this very moment.

Allow me to rephrase.

  1. Open https://app.plex.tv
  2. It will load the Plex/web desktop (hosted version)
  3. In the upper right corner, click your avatar, SIGN-OUT (of your account)
  4. close the browser
  5. Stop PMS on the host
  6. Open a terminal window.
  7. Using the text editor of your choice (vi , gedit, etc), as root, edit "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml"
  8. On the last line, before the closing /> enter secureConnections="0"
  9. It will look like: somePref="value" secureConnections="0" />
  10. Save the file
  11. This disables the secure connection requirement for your LAN.
  12. Start PMS
  13. Open the browser and the server.
  14. Sign into your Plex account.
  15. Everything should be there.

If this hasn’t happened, make a tar.gz of the Logs directory (under Plex Media Server and attach it.

setting it to 0 made the server spit out empty responses.
Setting it to 1 looks like fixed the issue

I’m still having troubles accessing it thru my VPN, but at least now I can see my library :slight_smile:

I have reset the server certificate again.

Please stop the server
Verify your system time is in sync with the internet time clock.
Restart PMS.
