This has been happening for a while and through many server versions. I’m just now getting around to filing the issue.
Some video files (mostly movies) seem to have a hard time playing. I will click them and they will just getting the spinning buffer forever. On a lark, as the icon was spinning, I pulled down the menu from the top and messed with various settings to see if I could get it to play. The only thing that fixed it was turning the subtitles off. This seems to typically happen when a file has embedded subtitles. Once I turn off the subtitles, the file will play just fine. (I have also tried using both the old and new player, but that doesn’t seem to make the issue go away).
I’d like to fix this because I like embedded subtitles (so that I don’t have to download my own). Is there some info I can provide about the files that will help you troubleshoot this?
