It seems that right after this recent update, I started having problems with some movies and videos not playing even though, only days ago, there were no problems playing any of these videos or movies.
I am streaming within my own house, on same network, and playing on an Apply TV device (ATV), or on a Samsung TV (STV), or even trying to play the movie or video with a Plex Player or Web Player on the very Mac where the server is installed… some movies play no problem, but others don’t, even though they played prior to update…
I don’t get any error messages on the ATV or STV, it simply keeps spinning a wheel and never plays. But, when I use a Plex player or Web player on my Mac where server is running, it gives me this error: Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.
I’m not sure if its a codec issue, or a probem with the current Server version, but I am struggling to find a solution, or figure out how to fix it. I’m noticing it appears this problem ONLY exists with x264 encoded video. I downloaded a few duplicate videos created with x265 codec, and they all play. Only the x264 videos are having the problem.
I’m not a solid tech guy, so need you to walk me through it, thanks. Much appreciated.
Same here. I am using a Synology NAS (DS1019+) which has hardware transcoding, but most (not all) .mp4 movies and TV series exhibit the same behavior you are describing. I think PLEX broke the .mp4 transcoder in the latest version. Unfortunately for me, Synology Package Center will not allow a roll-back on PMS versions so I am stuck until PLEX fixes the issue.
Same problem here. I rolled back to 1.40.0 and everything start to work again. (Server-Windows)
Videos works on computer (chrome) but don’t won Plex app (Android) and Plex for Roku.
I don’t know how to report this bug to help them fix this
Where did you find this older version? I can’t seem to find it anywhere, and when I go to the Plex Media Server downloads page, it seems to be locked onto Beta downloads, and I can’t toggle it off.
I’m running 2 servers, one on a MAC and the other on a Synology NAS , I would love to roll back to an earlier version. I checked my settings on both servers, and I am configured for the Public channel, not the Beta channel, yet I somehow this problematic Beta release is installed.
Ya, I figured out how to roll back my Mac, but sadly I cannot do the same method with my Synology NAS which is updated manually, and I certainly didnt know the update was a Beta.
