Songs that are always played together

Is there a way to tag some songs to always follow another song when they are randomly played? For example, Queen’s We are the Champions should always follow We will Rock You. Another example is Led Zeppelin’s Heartbreaker and Livin’ Lovin’ Maid.

There is no such feature in Plex.

Two things, first in my opinion, Plex has no clue what random means to its users. I hate that they don’t provide a true random play. It’s using some algorithm that’s playing the same artist or similar sound. I want random. Just plain random. So I hope Plex doesn’t accommodate your request and make it even less random.

Second, that said, I get what you’re looking for. In my opinion, Styx Prelude IS the introduction to Suite Madame Blue and Van Halen Eruption IS the introduction to You Really Got Me. So, I use Audacity to put the songs together to play the way they were intended on the original albums.

For me, this does not corrupt my original library since I have a library of original albums with copies of my favorite tracks in a “FLAC Favorites” library that is normalized and edited as I mentioned above. My original album copies are unblemished.

Plex is using a random algorithm. To be clear, random means there is a chance similar songs are played next to each other. What I think you are referring to is “even distributed”, so songs from say 1 album or artist is spread out even across the queue.

Plex does have a feature if you are playing a single album or artist, we will recommend a similar style to continue after the current item is done playing. If you hit shuffle on your library, then things are random.

There is also a setting on the server that will make things less random when you shuffle, in favor of songs you play more often or have higher ratings. Check if you have this enabled.

Checked the settings again just to be sure. All good. I want to believe you, but the frequency is uncanny and unlikely. I don’t mean once in a while. I mean every day. It might not be the next song, but it will hit a song from the same album within a few songs. That’s not just once in a listening session either. Other artists, but numerous times in a listening session. If it wasn’t every day or I had a small library, I wouldn’t question what you say and take it at faith. But that simply doesn’t reflect the results. If it didn’t happen on old music that you don’t mind hearing once in a while, it’d be fine. But something like Jim Croce or Dr. Hook, I love hearing a song tossed in randomly. But I don’t want to hear 2 or 3 more in the next 10 minutes!

Thanks for the idea of manually splicing the songs together. I’m okay with that since in my head that next song has already started playing!
