Sonic Analysis keeps going after scheduled times

Server: Debian GNU/Linux 10 x86_64
Server Version: 1.24.1.4931

Hi!

A few days back I did activate the brand new sonic analysis feature on my server following your instructions. Everything looks fine but yesterday in the morning I noticed the ‘Plex Music Analyzer’ running outside of scheduled time.

The maintenance scheduled times on my server are between 3AM and 8AM. Now it’s 11:26AM here and the process is still running. Yesterday I restarted the server and that process didn’t start during the day (I’m assuming it started again at the beginning of the scheduled times).

Got several questions here:

  • Why the ‘Plex Music Analyzer’ didn’t stop at 8AM?
  • I’m looking at the progress of Sonic Analysis on https://app.plex.tv and it seems stuck on ‘Processing 878 albums’.
  • If I restart the server now, assuming the analysis process is doing something, when it start again, it will resume where it left or it will start over?

Thanks in advance!

I did forget to mention that /tmp directory is writeable by Plex Server and it’s populated by some subdirs created by Plex and inside them there are a bunch of track-???.wav files.

Did you set the Sonic Analysis (“Analyze audio tracks for sonic features”) option to “as a scheduled task” or “as a scheduled task and when media is added?”

On the analyzer’s first run, it thinks all your media is newly added, so if it’s “as a scheduled task and when media is added,” it’s not restricted to the scheduled time.

Nailed it.
It was set to ‘as a scheduled task and when new media is added’. I just switched it to scheduled task only. I guess I can change it back when the scan is completed.

Thanks a lot!
