Sonos Arc soundbar DTS to AC3 Transcoding not working

I have exactly the same problem as everyone else has mentioned in this thread. ARC and plex on the shield only provides Stereo 2.0 for DTS or DTS-HD content. True HD is fine. Is there a feature request for plex where we can get them to fix this just like Kodi has managed to do so?

I have put in an official feature request to Plex to see if we can get this fixed. It would be great if you could all support this and vote for it.

Please Plex help us! @DaveBinM? I’m pretty scared that zero employees have commented on this issue so far.

Im familiar with platform issues so Im not going to become angry with Plex but I do find it curious that I have no issues with DTS converting to DD+ on my TCL Series 6 native app but the Shield is having such problems.

You clearly missed the comment from Jesus then

We are aware of this, and are tracking it internally

Haha, amazing. That’s great to hear thanks.

Thanks for the updated Dave

More the second one

Is anyone using a Roku Ultra and having this issue? Please let me know I am looking to upgrade to a Sonos ARC setup soon and I would like to know if this is a possible issue for my use of a Roku Ultra with an Samsung TV.

thanks

The workaround I’m using is to go into settings in the Plex Android TV-client and change “Audio passthrough” to “Optical” when I need to watch something with DTS. Then the plex server will transcode DTS->AC3.
The downside of this is that it’ll also transcode 7.1 and Dolby Atmos to 5.1 AC3 so normally I’ll keep the setting “Audio passthrough” to HDMI (and then Dolby Atmos works).

It’s a bit clunky, but it works as a workaround.

I’ve tried that but I lose Dolby Vision support in the latest beta. So it’s a no go because I get something on one hand and something else taken away on the other

I found the issue. Make sure on Plex settings to change the format from original to scale it down to play between 8 to 20mbps so in could transcode movie and audio.

. Make sure on Plex settings to change the format from original to scale it down to play between 8 to 20mbps so in could transcode movie and audio.

No offence, but that is a terrible idea. Why would I want to transcode video? I want it original.

If you are in own network its going to play it direct stream AS LONG YOU HAVE SETTING ENABLE ON PLEX. only transcode the audio… just trying to give people work around. and not do the crap you did. NO OFFENCE.

Lol. You said in your own words (and you are right) that if you set the format from original to scale it down, it transcodes the movie (the actual video) and audio. We do not want to transcode the video. It does NOT direct play under those circumstances. You are incorrect.

Secondly, this is a bug which has been acknowledged by Plex, so there isn’t any “crap” I’ve done at all. I’m waiting for the bug to be fixed.
