Sonos playback from remote Plex server fails

Server Version#: 1.24.0.4930
Player Version#: N/A
Sonos Version: 11.2.10 (Sonos S1)

Playback from a remote Plex server via the Sonos apps always fails, for all audio files, with error message “the connection to Plex was lost”. Browsing (etc.) works without problems. This is a new problem, though I’m not sure when it started.

This only happens on my remote Sonos system. My local Sonos systems (one S1, one S2) on the same network as the Plex server work fine.

Playback from the macOS, iOS and iPadOS Plex apps work fine both locally and remotely.

Any ideas?

I have been experiencing this same issue for the last four days which renders my Sonos system useless for Plex. In my case, I’m trying to reach a local Plex server that has remote access enabled. It worked previously, no problems. Other players, local and remote, work fine.

I’m on Plex version 1.24.1.4931 & Sonos version 11.2.10 (S1). I’ve tried removing the Plex service from Sonos and adding it back. No joy.

I wonder if this is broken for all Sonos S1 users accessing remote Plex servers, but that there aren’t many of us?

It is hard for me to believe it’s a small population. I remember the uproar when Sonos tried to deprecate our hardware.

It is also broken on my Amazon Echo devices. I think it maybe worked once in 50 “ask Plex to play” requests. I’ve tried all sorts of settings tweaks, reboots, etc. No joy. I really think this is a Plex server issue as prior to the server update everything worked fine and no other changes were made.

I discovered that if I set the Plex server’s ‘Secure connections’ option to ‘Disabled’, this allows Sonos to connect & play content without issues. This hints at an issue at the Sonos end in establishing a secure connection.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a workaround as it then disables Plex web and Plex client access to the server.

I’m running up-to-date versions of Sonos S1 v11.2.13 and Plex server v1.25.0.5282.

I have the same issue. PMS Version 1.25.2.5319 and Sonos S2 V13.4.1. Unable to browse folders but was OK last week.

Still broken.
