Sony A80J android TV playback issues

I’m encountering some weird playback issues on my Sony Bravia A80J smart TV. I’m using the Plex app on its Android/Google TV system, which is giving me weird issues with AAC audio playback.
My server is powerful enough to transcode HEVC video, and I’m only trying to playback 1080p, but it can directplay pretty much any video format.

The issue I’m having is the following:
Playing a 1080p movie with HEVC video and AAC audio without subtitles plays without problems, even though the audio gets transcoded to OPUS while the video is played directly without transcoding. If I then enable VOBSUB subtitles, it still works fine, but now both video and audio are transcoded and the subs are burned in.
If I enable SRT subtitles however, then the movie will just not start playing at all. It just stays on the loading circle screen.

How can this happen? Both HEVC video and AAC audio play fine while transcoded with VOBSUB subtitles burned in, but somehow it doesn’t play at all while SRT subtitles are selected.

Other video and audio types work without issues as well. 4K HDR with (E)AC3 and SRT subtitles plays directly without issues. 1080p HEVC video with (E)AC3 audio and SRT subtitles also directplays without issue.
1080p HEVC video with AAC audio and PGS or VOBSUB subtitles also plays fine but it is transcoded to burnin the subtitles. However, selecting SRT subtitles doesn’t work and it stays stuck on the loading screen.

Why is only the combination of AAC audio and SRT subtitles not working even though all other combinations work?
